BIBLE STUDY: BOUNDARIES & DISCERNMENT

As we grow spiritually, we have to understand that not everything deserves access to us. Not every opportunity is from GOD. Not every person should have the same level of access to your life. Not every thought deserves your attention.

Boundaries are not about becoming cold. They are about protecting what GOD has entrusted to you. Discernment is knowing what belongs in your life and what does not.

Proverbs 4:23
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

GOD tells us to guard our heart. That means there needs to be a gate. If everything and everyone has unlimited access to your mind, emotions, time and energy, eventually you will lose control of what flows out of you.

A boundary says: I can love you without allowing you to destroy my peace. I can forgive you without giving you the same access. I can pray for you without walking the same path with you.

Protecting your peace is not weakness. Protecting your family is not selfish. Protecting your purpose is not arrogance. Sometimes the most loving and disciplined word you can say is no.

Matthew 7:6
“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs.”

Jesus Himself taught boundaries. Everything valuable should not be handed to everyone. Your time is valuable. Your attention is valuable. Your family is valuable. Your purpose is valuable. Your relationship with GOD is sacred.

We sometimes confuse being a good person with allowing unlimited access. Those are not the same thing.

You can be kind and still have boundaries. You can love someone and still walk away. You can forgive someone and still recognize the pattern. You can serve people without allowing them to drain everything GOD has given you.

Philippians 1:9–10
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best.”

This is where discernment comes in. Discernment is deeper than simply knowing right from wrong. Sometimes the decision is between good and GOD’s best.

Some things will look good but pull you away from your assignment. Some relationships will feel good but weaken your discipline. Some opportunities will make money but cost you peace. Some environments will feed your ego while starving your spirit.

That is why we need GOD’s wisdom.

Before saying yes, ask: Does this bring me closer to GOD or further away? Does this strengthen or weaken my family? Does this support the man GOD is developing me into? Am I making this decision from wisdom, or from ego, fear, lust, greed or the need for approval?

WARRIOR SUMMARY

A disciplined man doesn’t just control what he does. He controls what he allows access to his life.

Guard your heart. Guard your mind. Guard your family. Guard your time. Guard your purpose.

But don’t build walls around your heart. Build gates with GOD standing at the entrance.

Boundaries determine what gets access.
Discernment determines what should get access.
Wisdom determines when to open the gate.

You don’t have to hate someone to create distance. You don’t have to explain every no. You don’t have to participate in everything you’re invited into.

Pray for wisdom. Watch the fruit. Recognize patterns. Listen more than you speak. And when GOD shows you something, have the discipline to act on it.

A warrior does not protect his ecosystem only physically and financially. He protects it spiritually.
