Married to Louise for 37 years, i have a 34 year old daughter Megan and 33 year old son Zac, I was elected as Cumbria's 1st Mayor in May 2015 for Copeland
Labour maxed out on spending in their first two budgets.
They promised to limit spending increases to £9.5 billion a year.
But they increased it by £146 billion instead.
That’s why they’re dithering on the Defence Investment Plan.
Kemi is absolutely right.
We need to scrap the Public Sector Equality Duty.
The simple principle that everyone should be treated fairly and equally has been undermined across our public institutions.
It's time to restore common sense.

Punishing today’s Conservatives for the mistakes of the past isn't just counterproductive—it’s completely self-defeating.
Think about it: it is exactly like a football fanbase refusing to support their club because of a terrible previous season under a completely different manager. It makes zero sense.
For years, the core complaint was clear: "We don't have an ideologically true Conservative leader, and we don't have real Conservative policies." Well, now we do. Under Kemi Badenoch, the landscape has completely shifted:
The Principles: She is delivering the authentic, common-sense conservatism the grassroots have been begging for.
The Vision: She is actively dismantling a decade of misrule and rebuilding the party from the ground up.
The Momentum: Her message is resonating, and her leadership is popular.
But Kemi cannot do this alone. She needs our support to make this renaissance a success.
Right now, the political landscape is fractured by a protest vote that achieves nothing. Splitting the vote for Reform—a party that operates as a volatile one-man band and routinely borrows policies from across the aisle just to patch a manifesto together—doesn't help a single soul in this country.
Worse still, let’s look at what Reform actually represents. The Tories are true blue. True Conservatism is blue.
Voting turquoise—a diluted, compromised blue—gets you a diluted form of conservatism that actively drifts leftward in Northern regions just to chase Red Wall populism. It lacks core stability.
The Conservative Party offers tested, experienced, "old school" representatives who understand how to govern and how to fight for traditional values.
It’s time to stop looking backward at past grievances and start looking forward at the real alternative. If you want genuine, un-diluted Conservatism, back the leader who is actually building it. 🇬🇧
Back Kemi. Back the Blues. 🌳

🚨 ANDY BURNHAM EXPOSED 🚨
Conservative candidate Mike Winstanley absolutely rips into Andy Burnham.
Not long ago, Burnham was telling everyone that being Mayor of Manchester was the greatest job on earth. Now he’s triggering a by-election so he can chase his next political ambition and make a run for No. 10.
Let’s call it what it is: you’re not putting the people of Makerfield first — you’re putting your own career and your party first.
The people of Makerfield deserve representation, not a stepping stone for another politician’s ambitions. 🇬🇧
These leaked messages prove that even the Prime Minister’s right hand man doesn’t think the Chancellor is capable of growing the economy.
It doesn't matter if it's Starmer or Burnham running the show, the problem is the Labour Party.
Been getting a lot of very positive reaction to my extended interview with @KemiBadenoch - which has now had over 600k views.
Her party may still be very unpopular but Ms Badenoch is getting increasingly popular.
Labour promised to publish their plan to fund our defence in Autumn last year.
9 months on, and there is still no sign of it.
If they won’t act, we will vote to force Keir Starmer to publish the plan within one month.
Incredibly, 90% of the new Labour MPs at the last election came from a trade union, charity or public-sector background. Barely 1/5th of the Cabinet has any private-sector experience. In the Shadow Cabinet, 3/4 of us do. That distinction matters.
The skills Labour MPs have acquired are in lobbying for more funding, campaigning for more benefits or more red tape. Britain needs a new generation of politician.
Only the Conservative Party can build a team for the economic war effort required after Burnham/Starmer have finished this catastrophic experiment. We will need to fix every aspect of our system at once. There will be no kicking decisions into the long grass, only rolling our sleeves up and getting to work.
If you've ever thought about a career in politics but decided it was too risky or you wouldn’t fit in, now is your time.…We are looking for people from every walk of life who know how to get stuff done.
In return, I will make politics work for you.
Britain does not lack talent. It lacks a system that draws that talent into public life. Join my team and help us get Britain working again.
My piece in the @Telegraph below👇
False narrative @TorstenBell
See how NEETs went up under Labour to nearly 17%. We brought them down to under 10%*
Yes, then the pandemic…everyone knows that hit young people…but not as badly as a Labour Government.
* Chart from Milburn’s report btw
Britain's welfare bill is out of control.
The next Conservative government will urgently reassess all PIP claims for mild anxiety, depression and ADHD.
So those that can work, do work.
It's way too hot out there.
The next Conservative government will reverse the aircon ban created by @RobertJenrick, which blocks new homes from being built with air conditioning.
That's the one he's talking about here ⬇️
The Conservatives have a fully costed plan to scrap the Carbon Tax to save British industry and protect our energy security.
With war in the Middle East, it's even more important that we have domestic refining capacity.
Here’s how we will get Britain working again👇
🚨 ZIA VS JENRICK — REFORM IN MELTDOWN 🚨
So Robert Jenrick goes on Sky News and is asked whether Reform UK would deport legal foreign residents living in social housing. His answer? “No, that’s not the plan.”
Minutes later, Zia Yusuf storms online basically saying: “Rob won’t be Home Secretary — I will — and I WOULD deport them.” 😂
This is the funniest part: a party with barely 7–8 MPs can’t even agree on a single policy position.
Imagine trusting these people to run the country when they can’t even run a consistent press line for one afternoon. 🍿🇬🇧
When the Government say that they're "creating jobs", it's reasonable to ask "for whom?"
The latest figures show 330k fewer British citizens on the payroll.
But employment amongst non-EU migrants, mostly from low-income countries, is up by nearly 250k.
Polygamy is illegal in the UK.
But if you’ve married 4 wives overseas and moved here, you could claim up to £78,000 in benefits. Paid for by British taxpayers.
That is absurd. Conservatives will end this.
When Labour took office, headline inflation was 2pc. That same figure has since averaged 3.1pc, compared to 2.7pc in the US over the same period, 2.2pc in Germany and 1.9pc in France.
“We promised to cut inflation – and we have”, said Reeves last week. That statement is arrant nonsense, despite last month's one-off inflation fall – as will soon become painfully clear.
