Helping athletes rehab and return to sport ready to compete | Founder @goaldrivenpt | Physio @redbull |Husband & Girl Dad | Former New York Red Bull Physio
One of the most successful ways I have found to provide feedback to my athletes in return to sport rehab is to show them video.
It shows them what they are doing, we can discuss where we want to be & how we want to achieve positions.
It is also a great way to track progress.
What is the biggest bucket NOT filled enough in ACL rehab?
Reconditioning is frequently neglected until RTP but can be built into rehab within weeks of surgery. There is no reason the athlete's overall fitness should be ignored for so long.
ACL rehab can be challenging for many of reasons for the athlete. Sport is often a large part of their identity & the injury stops it hard in its tracks.
BUT...
They now have a great opportunity for 9+ months to focus on their development. It can be a massive transformation!
What is missing in successful return to play?
The collaboration between coaching staff, physio and s and c are essential. Ultimately, the athlete wins.
Here is why...
Finding the right physio is a key component following your ACL injury when building your rehab team.
Here are 4 questions to ask when looking for the right fit...
Fatigue is data.
Neuromuscular, metabolic, psychological — each gives different feedback on how well the system is adapting.
When recovery lags or coordination drops, that’s not failure — it’s information.
Adaptation happens when recovery matches the stress.
Fatigue isn’t failure — it’s feedback.
It shows how well your system adapts under stress — physically, neurologically, and psychologically.
Recovery isn’t about rest.
It’s about matching the stress that created it.
Most athletes think once they’re cleared — they’re ready.
But late-stage rehab is where the biggest gaps appear.
Being strong doesn’t mean you’re prepared.
And too many athletes skip what I call controll to chaos — the bridge between rehab and performance.
It’s where decision-making, reaction, and unpredictability return.
Where movement turns back into skill.
Confidence & Capacity:
Athletes who stay active through rehab feel like athletes longer.
They stay connected to their sport and build resilience that carries through long recovery blocks.
Most athletes stop conditioning when they get injured.
but your body doesn’t heal in isolation — it heals through integration.
stay fit, and you improve the environment your body heals in.
conditioning isn’t extra — it’s recovery. 🎥👇
