In the healthcare system, physiotherapy is the frontline profession for most musculoskeletal conditions, with other disciplines stepping in when required.
My clinical experience in Nigeria played a significant role in shaping my international perspective. In Nigeria, many of the musculoskeletal cases I managed were already chronic, largely because clients were not referred early enough for timely intervention. In contrast, practising abroad presents a completely different structure, physiotherapy functions as true primary care. Physiotherapists are the first point of contact and the first line of triage for most MSK presentations, allowing for early assessment, evidence-based management, and far better patient outcomes.
To every BPT and DPT student out there: the future of physiotherapy is incredibly bright. The profession is evolving, expanding, and positioned at the forefront of modern healthcare. Stay focused, stay passionate, and keep building your skills, there has never been a better time to be a physiotherapist.
Cheers!

You don’t need to be a doctor to ask your patients what medicines they take. 💊
You don’t need to be a dietitian to ask what they eat and drink regularly. 🍔
You don’t need to be a sleep specialist to ask how they’re sleeping. 😴
You don’t need to be an exercise physiologist to ask how much they move in a week. 🏃♂️
You don’t need to be a social worker to ask who’s supporting them at home. 🏡
You don’t need to be a psychiatrist to ask how they’re feeling! 🧠
STOP hiding behind “scope of practice” as an excuse to NOT have basic human conversations with your patients!
One major reason I accepted my first NZ job offer was because I knew a friend was already working there. That made life so much easier for me. I arrived in the country with only $84, spent $70 at the airport. During one of those tough moments, I had a friend who was there for me.
I love football so much even though I don't know how to play, and I always wanted to get close to the action, help athletes stay fit and recover, and even work pitchside during matches
I decided to study the course because that's the pathway to being a Sport Physiotherapist.
