Good stance - shows that we won’t be pushed into it. Also clever as if clubs really want him they will make silly bids which would benefit us too. Good ownership #avfc
🚨 NEW: Aston Villa are believed to have made it clear to interested clubs that they do not want to sell Morgan Rogers this summer — they would not welcome any bids & have not put a clear price on him. @RobDorsettSky, @SkySportsLyall#avfc
Biggest factor has always been is if Ronaldo doesn’t score he is not impacting games in any way - Messi doesn’t have to score to be the best player on the pitch. Great goalscorer yes & nobody would dispute that but never in a million years a better player.
Piers: "He showed he's the most clinical finisher in the history of world football!"
Andy: "It wasn't the World Cup final... it was Uzbekistan!"
@PiersMorgan and Andy Goldstein got heated over Cristiano Ronaldo's GOAT status after scoring two vs Uzbekistan! 🔥
As the tournament goes on England need a plan B when it’s not working - too many like for like changes for tactics which clearly weren’t working. Much to learn going forward. Strikers on the bench with a chance to mix it up and stretch opponents back line with runs in behind
@HolidaiSon More to do with the fact we can’t go out and get top top level back ups - our back up players will always be below the level of the first team. Hence they are back ups. We aren’t Man City and hWe have also already tried the players for profit - just look at Garcia - hasn’t worked
I remember a lot of noise about Lindelof not being good enough & a poor signing last summer - on the face of it yes, it’s not exciting with Emerson however he is a back up & I will reserve judgement until Unai has worked with him #avfc
#AVFC in talks to sign Emerson Royal from Flamengo.
Villa yet to submit a formal offer but discussing price point. Former Spurs right-back considered affordable alternative to Matty Cash.

Ronaldo is & always has been a goalscorer, it’s what he does - knows where the net is & is a machine in finding it. However that said in terms of a ‘footballer’ there are players who are better with what they do with a ball etc Messi though has always been way out on his own
This debate always makes me laugh about Messi in the prem - as it’s almost as if he hasn’t destroyed top English sides in UCL over the last 15 years and in some cases completely by himself! 🤦🏻♂️
🤔 "Who is the GOAT?"
😱 "In my view Ronaldo!"
😬 "You wonder how Messi would've played in the Premier League!"
Simon Jordan reveals that he believes Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Lionel Messi
Messi always finds himself seemingly in space with nobody marking him & questions are “why isn’t someone marking him” for 20 years, he walks around & simply reads patterns of play & appears when everyone else is watching play unfolding around them. Simply magical. Can’t teach it
@Trentvilla1 Yeah sadly any stadium expansion is going to be off the charts and just doesn’t seem realistic - think we will get to a level off the pitch with branding etc which we won’t be able to increase
Villa have overtaken spurs on the pitch no question now. However the brand & off the pitch stuff is huge & that’s where the impossible gap is. The money the ‘big 6’ brand makes the EPL around the world is enormous & sadly off field football business is bigger than ever #avfc
🚨 EXCL: Tottenham Hotspur open talks with Newcastle United over deal for Sandro Tonali. Man City pursuit ongoing - #MCFC & #THFC talking to 26yo’s reps in bid to agree personal terms. But contacting #NUFC shows Spurs intent to get deal done @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/2LnAjY7hQ3
@Hedley_10@johnchurchley Yeah that is correct! Especially if some like Chelsea and spurs miss European football every few seasons.
Key difference right now is having to sell to buy when they just buy, it’s why smart business is so important now to replace outgoings
@johnchurchley@Hedley_10 I agree but that will almost certainly be on the pitch - it’s already happened now with Villa, the main issue is the off pitch global brand growing year by year significantly
@Hedley_10@johnchurchley Yeah I theory that would be good! Starting to be a bit more solid with rejecting transfer bids and holding out for top money where as previously they would be talked into accepting lower offers.
Growing a brand to overtake others without league protection is so so hard though
@Hedley_10@johnchurchley It’s more about how the league will act going forward when it’s ‘big’ clubs are getting caught or overtaken.
The league should be a completely level playing field 100% - if you have owners with money they can spend and invest in their own business which is logical
@johnchurchley Yeah I agree - however the reasons the rules are in place like this is due to the fact those 6 clubs bring so much globally to the prem hence why they were made to stop any encroaching. But the worry is what happens to the rules when that gap truly does start closing further
Completely agree - might be games where he still bangs in 2 or 3 goals. But the circumstances within games & the impact he has is becoming less and less, therefore in certain moments (not all) decisions have to be made for the good of the over all team.
😰 "At some point you have to make big decisions!"
❌ "Ronaldo offered them nothing, in and out of possession!"
🤦♂️ "Vitinha, Neves... these guys can't play their natural game!"
Darren Bent insists Portugal need to drop Cristiano Ronaldo if they want to win the World Cup! 🇵🇹
Disappointing for Newcastle this….. guy is a top talent & would have been ideal to replace Gordon role. Not quite sure why they spent so long haggling over the release clause, which has obviously allowed Liverpool to swoop in and just pay it.
🚨 Liverpool staff in USA to conduct medical for Victor Munoz ahead of signing winger from Osasuna. 22yo Spain int’l pursued by Newcastle United but #LFC triggered €40m clause & #Osasuna attacker set to sign 6yr contract. W/ @JamesPearceLFC@TheAthleticFC https://t.co/TSnqywlpxX
He did his research! ✔️
Harry Kane knew if he stuttered in his run-up, there was a chance Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic would come off his line.
