I pay for @StreamOnMax, travel for work, and now I can’t watch because I’ve apparently traveled “too many times.” Corporate greed is getting completely out of hand. @HBO
@AJP413 I haven’t watched your full video yet to see why you’re saying this, but I don’t think the media is to blame here. I remember the question being asked countless times, and BK and others blatantly lying about the injury even though everyone could see it in Nuss’s throwing motion.
It isn’t something people need to keep going back and forth about, especially Black people, given the racialized history and complicated racial dynamics tied to Mardi Gras in both places.
But that’s a deeper dive for another post.
As a Mobile native, I’m tired of it too, but you’re mixing up a few different events.
On March 2, 1699, Bienville did name a spot "Pointe du Mardi Gras" because it was the eve of the holiday, but it was just naming a plot of land 60 miles south of where New Orleans is today.
Same! But it continues bc Alabama keeps falsely stating that it started there. It started in MOBILE, LOUISIANA. Not Mobile, Alabama. The first Mobile celebration was in 1703. The first celebration in New Orleans was in 1699!! Yet Alabama still like being loud & wrong!
