Spent 2 hours giving @teslaownersSV the first deep look inside the entire Boring Company manufacturing operation.
We covered the full production line, looked under the hood of Prufrock, and discussed the philosophies that allow us to move as fast as possible.

FIRST EVER BORING COMPANY HQ & FACTORY TOUR
I got the chance to take the first ever tour through @boringcompany Headquarters and their massive factory/production line.
In this video we walk through the facility, see the huge tunnel sections being manufactured, and get an up-close look at how everything is built.

Yeah exactly. I guess I should correct myself on the no batteries except life support systems comment though. The liner truck, which is the mining vehicle we make to bring tunnel segments and consumables into the tunnel, is based on a Tesla model 3 drive train so it has a model 3 battery pack (or two packs depending on the version)
No batteries anywhere in the system with the exception of backup life support systems.
Power flow goes something like:
Grid power or 2.5 MVA genset -> surface side step up substation to 13.2kV -> HV transmission line into the tunnel -> TBM
On the TBM the 13.2kV feed splits and powers two subterranean substations. One power’s just the cutterhead and that one steps the 13.2kV down to 690V at a 1.6 MVA capacity. The second substation powers everything else on the TBM. That one steps the 13.2kV down to 480V at a 1MVA capacity

In tunnel loop systems stations are pull offs, so you can add an arbitrary number of stations to a loop with just about 0 impact to point-to-point transit times. This is because you can just drive right past the stop if it’s not your destination.
We have a literal taco shop that signed up for a station in the Vegas loop and we are thrilled to add it to the system.
This is very different than subways and trains where every station is nominally a stop, so you are forced to make the trade off of transit time and density of pickup/drop-off locations.
@ImpactOptimist The pain is real. I interned for a large defense contractor when I was in college. My role was focused on developing SW for some robotics applications but I spent 80% of my time stuck in the bureaucratic muck.
By any reasonable measure — yards of dirt moved, concrete poured, etc. — the Vegas Loop is already the largest infrastructure project in the US, with Nashville Loop in the number two spot right behind it.
This is what happens when you stop endless planning and start building at real speed and scale.
