As the NYC rapper billy woods said in 2023: "My taxes pay police brutality settlements."
Couldn't be more true in Buffalo, reports my colleague Geoff Kelly, where such settlements could now create a city budget deficit.

Kendrick Lamar says he felt like Goku after hearing the 'HEY NOW' beat 😭🔥
“When I heard the beat, I just felt like Goku or something… When I hear certain sh*t on [Mustard] beats, it brings out something else in me.”
In the digital world, I’ve brought many creative projects to life.
I’ve taken my camera around a myriad of cities. I’ve filmed cinematic b-roll. I’ve edited and uploaded over 500 videos, each one with the intention of helping people live more fulfilling, informed lives.
My most recent “big” project—my first ever short film—felt like a culmination of everything I’ve worked for over these past 7 years.
But it’s time for another project to begin. One that’s even more ambitious than a short film’s production.
At the foundation of everything I’ve ever created, is my writing. My writing is the reason I can share my stories. Stories are what get people to think, to change, to cry, to get motivated—and maybe impact their lives so heavily, that they come out of it a different person.
I love the idea of making a story that’s topped any other I’ve written. A story to be read over more than one session, that takes you away from the digital world, rather than keeping you tethered to it.
That is why I’m happy to announce I will be writing my first novel starting this year.
I’ve fallen in love with fiction recently. Self-help books can often feel too repetitive, and if you’ve read a handful of them, you’ve essentially read them all.
But for the sake of appealing to most of my audience, I will be marketing this novel as “The World’s First Self-Help Fiction Book”.
It tells the story of a anxious teenage boy in college, who goes through a tragic life event that permanently changes his brain.
With his new brain, he is able to see two realities at once—the reality he’s always lived in, and a new, parallel reality that may hold the thing he so tragically lost. It’s a blend of realism and fantasy that makes it both relatable, and intriguing.
I don’t want to give anything else away right now. So instead, I’ll be bringing you along the journey of its creation using my newsletter.
Over the next… however long it takes to write the novel, I’ll be sharing updates and snippets with you at the bottom of each newsletter.
If you aren't subscribed to it yet and you'd like to be, I'll leave a link in the replies below this post.
If you've been looking for a reason to read more fiction while still gaining valuable insights, this will be well worth the wait.
Thank you for all of your support. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to create a life in which I have the opportunity to tackle this sort of project.
