Reflecting on my Master’s Journey really brings things to light. Myself and my colleagues have come a long way in the past year. So much hs been learned. And so many lessons have been taught. Still have so much more to learn as an educational leader. #EDL655
Contemplating my beliefs and creating an educational leadership platform really puts things into perspective when considering what the future holds for my career #EDL655
“Take personal responsibility for generating an ethical solution” (Sternberg, 2011). No matter what you do as an educational leader, you must always take responsibility for your actions. #EDL655
“Prepare for possible repercussions of having acted in what one considers an ethical manner” (Sternberg, 2011). We may believe that our decision to act ethically was correct; however, there are always repercussions for our decisions. Good or bad. #EDL655
“Recognize that there is an event to which to react” (Sternberg, 2011). Realize when to react to a certain situation can be a challenge. Mostly because we are not always sure of the specific details. How can thinking ethically impact our reactions? #EDL655
“I took my spot behind my giant mahogany desk. Then...I worked with our office manager to order a smaller desk to make room in my office for a large collaborative table” (Fisherman-Weaver, 2016). Collaborative work can lead to such great things when given the chance. #EDL655
“I learned a lot on my first day in school administration and have built on those lessons” (Fishman-Weaver, 2016). Even as a teacher, lessons can be learned every day that change the way we speak, teach, and so much more. #EDL655
“[A]s a principal, how do you devise a ‘map’ to decision-making questions with regards to core values? (Fishman-Weaver, 2016). Knowing what to do, and how to do it, as an educational leader can be very challenging. By establishing a set of values to abide by can help. #EDL655
“When a principal is visible around the school, it conveys a powerful message” (Alvy & Robbins, 2005). By being visible, educational leaders are demonstrating how much they care for their staff/students on various levels. #EDL655
”Although it seems obvious that principals should first consider student interest when making important decisions, new administrators may fail to keep this priority in mind when bogged down in myriad responsibilities” (Alvy & Robbins, 2005). #EDL655
“You must emphasize your strongest assets in your opening statement, indicating that you will offer expertise in an untapped area or add value to the potential employers positive attributes” (Corda, 2012). When crafting professional resumes, one must make themselves shine #EDL655
"Understand that you and your teachers are accountable for your actions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week" (Weaver, 2007). Anything that we do outside of work, deemed unacceptable for someone with our status, can cause us to lose our jobs. We must be smart and be careful. #EDL655
"Don't ignore situations. Don't avoid situations in your school that require your intervention" (Weaver, 2007). As with any situation in life, if it needs your attention in order to solve it, we must not look past it. Otherwise it can worsen. #EDL655
When facing a controversial decision, should educational leaders act ethically, or act based on the situation at hand? What would be key factors that would alter a leaders final decision? #EDL655

As an educational leader, how do you manage concerns from parents in regards to teachers social media posts? Does this violate the teachers right to confidentiality? Or can you take action based on a teachers personal decisions outside of school? #EDL655
A5: A welcoming environment is one where all parties feel a sense of ease when entering. They are greeted with a hello and a smile and all needs are being met to the best of our abilities. #engagechat
A4: Some actions that are needed to promote family engagement would be monthly newsletters, and/or quarterly family nights to get them more engaged. By showing that they are as important as the students, they feel more need to engage. #engagechat
A3: Some of the biggest barriers I have encountered with family engagement would have to do with language and education level. If the family does not speak English they don’t feel welcome. And if their education level is low then don’t feel they can assist in anything. #engagchat
A2: Schools need to invite families to family night where parents can engage with staff and students in ways that benefit the school. This allows them to get to know the campus better. And feel more welcome. #engagechat
