"Down this road the soldiers came." 80 years ago tomorrow, on 10 June 1944, four days after D-Day, the village of Oradour-sur-Glane in Nazi-occupied France was destroyed. 643 civilians, including non-combatant men, women, and children, were massacred by a company of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich. The Germans murdered everyone they found in the village at the time, as well as people brought in from the surrounding area. Women and children were herded into a church that was set on fire; the memorable begininning of the #WorldatWar TV series.
⚡️❗️A Russian Su-57 aircraft has been damaged at Akhtubinsk airfield, Astrakhan region of Russia on 8th June, 2024 - Ukrainian Defense Intelligence. This happened for the first time in history. The airfield is located 589 km from the combat lines.
Satellite images show that on June 7, the Su-57 is intact on the airfield, and on June 8 next to him eruptions from the explosion and characteristic spots of the fire that arose as a result of the fire damage are visible.
The Su-57 is Moscow's most modern fighter that can attack with Kh-59 and Kh-69 missiles. Russia has a limited number of such aircraft.
