President Chamisa Brands CAB3 ‘Selfish National Mistake’, Rallies MPs to Side with Citizens
Citizens President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa has urged MPs and Senators across party lines to reject Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), warning that the proposal undermines Zimbabwe’s democratic future. In a statement titled “Stand With the Citizens Reject CAB3,” Chamisa said government legitimacy depends on the consent of the people and argued that the Bill represents a dangerous, self-serving shift away from constitutional principles.
He called CAB3 “the wrong move, a misguided initiative and a selfish national mistake,” saying it wastes national time and resources. Chamisa cautioned that the consequences of the amendments could backfire on those driving them.
Introduced by Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, CAB3 remains fiercely contested in Parliament. Its most contentious clauses seek to extend presidential and parliamentary terms from five to seven years, and to replace direct presidential elections with an indirect vote by MPs.
Chamisa dismissed the consultation process as predetermined, insisting citizens have already spoken and should not be sidelined. He framed the dispute as a wider struggle, urging Zimbabweans to organize and defend their constitutional rights.
Legal challenges are mounting, with applications reportedly filed at the Constitutional Court to block any extension of sitting legislators’ terms beyond 2028. Public hearings have also drawn criticism. Despite Parliament receiving over 300,000 written submissions, opposition leaders and civic groups have labelled the hearings a “charade,” saying the process lacks transparency and does not reflect the people’s will.
Government and ZANU-PF maintain that the amendments do not require a referendum and that Parliament’s route is legally valid. The stance has sharpened national divisions over the Constitution’s future.
Chamisa’s intervention comes amid a fragmented opposition, but he stressed his commitment to citizens’ interests. As CAB3 debates continue, the Bill has become one of the country’s most divisive constitutional issues. Attention now turns to Parliament, and whether lawmakers will prioritize party lines or the voters they represent.
Zimbabwe belongs to the people, not to a political elite operating above the law. Citizens are exhausted by corruption, impunity and policies that seem designed to enrich a connected few while ordinary Zimbabweans suffer daily. The Constitution was meant to protect the masses, ensure accountability and uphold democracy not to be manipulated for personal power and financial gain. Zimbabweans deserve transparent leadership, justice and a government that serves the nation, not private interests. #NotoCAB3👊🏾🇿🇼

Pressure Mounts on Ramaphosa as Questions Follow Zimbabwe Visit

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is facing renewed political pressure after reports emerged of a motion of no confidence being pursued against him, adding another layer of difficulty to an already challenging political environment.
The latest developments come amid growing public debate surrounding Ramaphosa’s recent visit to Zimbabwe, including reported meetings at Precabe Farm in Kwekwe that have sparked questions and political discussion both inside South Africa and across the region.
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has reportedly informed parliamentary leadership of its intention to pursue a motion of no confidence against President Ramaphosa. While South African politics has long experienced intense contestation and coalition tensions, observers are now asking whether recent controversies may be increasing political pressure on the president.
In Zimbabwe, online discussions and political commentators have raised questions over why South African political figures are engaging with business personalities and political networks viewed by critics as controversial. Some citizens argue that regional leaders should place stronger emphasis on transparency, accountability, and strengthening institutions.
The debate has also reopened wider conversations about governance and integrity across Southern Africa. Citizens across the region continue to express concerns around corruption, economic performance, unemployment, and leadership accountability.
Supporters of Zimbabwe’s opposition politics, including followers of President Nelson Chamisa’s We The Citizens movement, argue that corruption and governance challenges remain central obstacles to economic recovery and job creation. Chamisa has repeatedly stated that corruption undermines development and weakens public trust.
Political analysts caution, however, that no-confidence motions are not unusual in parliamentary systems and often reflect broader political battles rather than a single event. Whether the Zimbabwe visit becomes a defining issue in South African politics remains uncertain.
What is becoming increasingly clear is that leadership, public trust, and perceptions of integrity continue to shape political conversations across the SADC region.
Integrity matters in leadership.

Zimbabwe’s Constitution is under threat. CAB3 is not reform , it’s a dangerous power grab that weakens democracy, extends authoritarian rule, and silences the people.
That’s petitions at Downing Street matter.
Zimbabweans everywhere must raise their voices before it’s too late. 🇿🇼✊🏾
