On Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom and recommit ourselves to the work that remains undone. We remember that even in the darkest hours, there is cause to hope for tomorrow’s light.

[WATCH] Hon. Prof. dr. Amon Murwira speaks at the United States of America's 249th Independence Day celebrations in Harare, this Wednesday. Prof. Murwira stated that Zimbabwe's foreign relations doctrine is founded on parameters or points of reference to guide how the country interacts with the international world, first and foremost, to be a friend to all and an enemy to none, and seeks non-adversarial and non-judgmental relationships.
He further stated that Zimbabwe is looking forward to deepening trade relations and expanding bilateral cooperation with the United States of America, and he appreciated the participation of the USA through its Embassy in Harare at the 2025 edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, which was held in Bulawayo.
I am undertaking a working visit to Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, where I was warmly received by Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde and senior members of his administration.
As part of this two-day engagement, we have begun convening key investors and exploring avenues for strategic collaboration between the @AfCFTA Secretariat and Oyo State.
Our discussions so far reaffirm a shared commitment to advancing sub-sovereign partnerships as critical enablers of Africa’s trade and investment agenda.

SADC PUSHES FOR REGIONAL INTEGRATION.
The 34th Committee of SADC Ministers of Trade and the 24th Ministerial Taskforce on Regional Integration closed their week-long meetings with fresh calls for increased intra-regional trade and economic cooperation.
The five-day high-level discussions brought together Ministers of Trade and Senior Officials from the 16-member SADC states to map out the path ahead in addressing barriers to trade, industrialisation, and inclusive economic growth.
Chairperson of Ministerial meeting, Professor dr. Amon Murwira emphasised the importance of unity in the region and the urgent necessity for member states to ratify outstanding SADC protocols, particularly those dealing with industrialisation and the mining value chain.
''Commitment to building our own SADC region significantly enhances SADC's effectiveness and sustainability of development initiatives. We should remember the purpose, the objective is to eradicate poverty. This sense and mindset of ownership fosters accountability and ensures that initiatives are aligned with our needs and priorities as a region.
One of the key signs of ratification is accession to the SADC protocol on trade. We either swim or sink, but we choose to swim together. We want to welcome you all to Harare as we gather for the 34th meeting of the SADC Committee of Ministers of Trade, an important platform to advance our shared economic vision.
We must promote regional and Pan-African solidarity, economic cooperation, and integration through SADC. Let us reaffirm SADC's role as a proactive advocate for African solutions to global challenges and a catalyst for continental unity and progress. Trade is a key driver of economic growth and development. The basis of SADC is that we share a prosperous common destiny. The SADC Declaration and Treaty emphasise the value of regional integration. We must stop building barriers among ourselves. The Mining Protocol's approval is an important step towards utilising the mining value chain and promoting equitable regional development," he said.
SADC Executive Secretary Mr. Elias Mpedi Magosi underlined the necessity of a long-term strategy in resolving structural difficulties and realising the region's full trade potential.
"Your meeting today provides a unique opportunity to reflect on how our region can better navigate the changing geopolitical landscape and address underlying barriers to increased intra-regional trade." In doing so, we must not consider short-term solutions, but rather long-term solutions to all anticipated future challenges, so that, as stated in our mission, we cement our global position as a competitive and effective player in international relations and the global economy," he said.
SADC Executive Secretary Mr Elias Mpedi Magosi emphasised the importance of long-term strategies in addressing structural challenges and unlocking the region’s full trade potential.
“Your meeting today presents a unique opportunity to reflect on how our region can better navigate the evolving geopolitical landscape and address underlying factors that impede increased intra-regional trade. In doing so, we must not think of short-term solutions but rather devise long-term solutions to counter all the anticipated challenges that may arise in the future so that, as our mission states, we cement our global position as a competitive and effective player in international relations and the world economy,” he said.
The meetings also examined how SADC member states whose combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) stands at over US$841 billion can effectively harness opportunities presented by the SADC Free Trade Area (FTA) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The discussions were centered on adopting cohesive policies that would allow the area to access into larger African markets and unlock greater economic potential through collective action.
@wef Yet the global outlook remains highly uncertain. Trade tensions and geopolitical risks are delaying business decisions, while #AI is expected to reshape labour markets in ways that are not yet fully understood.
India’s economic momentum is remarkable. In my latest interview with @IndiaToday with @szarabi & @sardesairajdeep, I discussed how sustained growth could see India become the world’s third-largest economy. With 7.5% growth last quarter, it is on track to reach a $5 trillion economy, potentially surpassing Japan.

AMCE exemplifies the transformative potential of the #AfCFTA. It demonstrates how economic integration can also drive social development. Healthcare remains central to the well-being and prosperity of our continent.
All AfCFTA instruments are available to support the rollout of AMCE across Africa.

Meet Nacho, a lawyer, mentor, and all-around changemaker ✨
A proud Chilean, Nacho's Rotary journey began with an unexpected honor: an award he received at his high school graduation from a local Rotary club. That simple gesture left a lasting impression, revealing the real impact Rotary members can have on the lives of young people. A few years later, Nacho founded his first Rotaract club while in law school, officially beginning his journey in Rotary.
More than a decade later, he will take the stage at the 2025 Rotary International Convention as a host (big deal!), showing how one small moment can spark a lifelong commitment to service.
Nacho is passionate about creating a more inclusive and impactful Rotary. He serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council and mentors Interactors and Rotaractors, empowering young leaders and leading by example. His dedication to engaging with and supporting others reflects his belief in the power of youth leadership within Rotary.
“When I started, I didn’t choose Rotary. Rotary chose me,” Nacho says. “It’s not just about the future. It’s about what we can do right now. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to start showing up.”
As he prepares for the convention, Nacho is excited to keep lifting up new voices and inspiring change.
His message is clear: "We are the leaders of today, not just tomorrow. Let’s get out there and make change happen."
