When Russia hosted the World Cup in 2018, it had to suspend normal visa rules for the tournament. Foreigners with tickets could enter visa-free, using a scheme called ‘Fan ID.’

Russia also had to do weird stuff to keep FIFA’s sponsors happy. For example, small shops near Fan Zones and stadiums could only sell Budweiser beer on match days.

So yes, FIFA absolutely does dictate conditions to host governments when it suits FIFA. Infantino pretending otherwise is nonsense.

A country under back-breaking unilateral sanctions for 47 years, that has had 3 direct wars imposed on it by a nuclear armed superpower who constantly harasses the country via terrorist attacks, sabotage etc:
- is now one of the worlds most important nations in producing cost-efficient & effective weaponry + drones,
- has a nuclear research industry,
- has a space program,
- produces top researchers in various scientific fields,
- produces world class athletes who win Olympic gold & world champs medals,
- produces authors, filmmakers, actors at the highest level

And on & on & on I could go.
No words suffice to adequately express how in awe I am of the people of Iran.
