Anti power-theft campaign: evidence from Charsadda.

Success of the campaign hinges upon behavioural modification in order to undermine the sub-culture of impunity.

Last week, a team of academic researchers visited me and presented a pretty strong evidence of such behaviour modification from district of Charsadda. The research project is being jointly sponsored by International Growth Center (IGC), London School of Economic (LSE) and the University of Chicago.

The team had been tracking consumers' behaviour towards electric bill payment and towards illegal stealing of electricity by using wire-hooks (kundas) in 1600 randomly selected households from a set of villages (each being larger than 200 households and with at least one congruent consumer) of district Charsadda since January 2023

Results of pre-campaign and post-campaign surveys show that average kunda prevalence rate (KPR) has, gone down from 23 % to 5 %.

Likewise, maximum KPR for the worst village in the sample has gone down from 67 % to 48 %.

Look how the red line has moved left to form the blue line, roughly three weeks after the launching of anti power-theft campaign.
