Evening viewing recommendation? On @criterionchannl, watch Billy Wilder's THE APARTMENT (1960) in our Office Romances collection! ❤️ https://t.co/EE0zhpYdcj
Harrison Ford: “Humanity is a part of nature, not above it. We need cultural change. We need to extend social justice. We need to respect and elevate the indigenous people that are being marginalized, and in many cases, killed in cold blood. The world you’re stepping into, the world my generation left you, is a real mess”
ethan hawke said something i haven’t stopped thinking about — we usually move past art like we have no need for it, until loss enters our life and suddenly nothing ordinary can hold what we’re feeling
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was released 10 years ago today on May 10, 2016!
A huge thanks to every fan who has experienced this momentous Nathan Drake adventure. ⛰️🏴☠️
why would anyone knowingly read a book produced by a machine or watch a movie mechanically-made when there are so any excellent books & movies already in existence? most serious works of art are individual & a bit quirky; we care for them because they are imperfect in unpredictable ways. an AI Bob Dylan song would be an amalgam of the Dylan songs already in existence which are there to be experienced without AI.
this girl said, “when you walk through a museum, you’re not just looking at art, you’re moving through centuries of people trying to explain love, grief, power, beauty, and belonging.” and now i can’t unsee it 🥺❤️
Don't be lazy and use A.I. Just sit with your thoughts and write. You don't want the uncanny valley vibes in your stories. It just sucks. Sometimes time is necessary to crack story. Let it. Be patient. Go for a walk. Read a book. Be with people. Life forges art.
I genuinely do not believe that AI can make me a better writer. Not in the drafting, not in the editing, not in the conceiving or brainstorming, none of it. I crave human reviewers and editors. I embrace the virtue of doing things "inefficiently."
Biggest take away from the Oscars for me is that finding people you love and making art with them is a worthy, integral and noble human pursuit, no matter the odds or outcomes.
i think the thing that bugs me most with AI is that the curiosity of trying to do/make/learn something, knowing you might fail or discover something else, is such a driving force of my joy and i'm sad to see it snuffed out by people whose only concept of 'art' is an end result
Tracy Chapman had already performed earlier in the day for Nelson Mandela’s 70th.
Stevie Wonder was about to go on when technical difficulties forced him to pull out..so Tracy performed again, to a way bigger audience. Within two weeks of this performance her album went from 250K to 2 million sold.
Creating art should be a kind of struggle. True artists buy into this, they understand and are willing to endure that struggle. Those who don't, those who aren't up for that fight, that exploration of what it means to be human... they type prompts into AI and churn out AI slop.
To be an artist, you don't have to compose music or paint or be in the movies or write books. It's just a way of living. It has to do with paying attention, remembering, filtering what you see and answering back, participating in life.
