The Indian National Congress was founded in 1885 and is one of India's oldest political parties. Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru played a major role in the freedom struggle through it. After independence, it governed the country at the Centre for many years. Its symbol is the open hand. Today, Mallikarjun Kharge is the party president and Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The party is currently in opposition at the Centre.
