The CDC confirmed late Thursday that shredded iceberg lettuce from Mexico, served at Taco Bell in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia, is a source of the cyclospora outbreak. This is a parasite that spreads through feces in irrigation water. More than 30 states have reported infections this year, blowing past the American record of 4,700 set in 2019.

Now here is the part that should make your blood boil.

The FDA traced it to one single supplier and then refused to name the company. The CDC will only say that "Taco Bell has committed to stop using any lettuce from the supplier identified by FDA's traceback investigation," which means that outfit is free to keep selling to somebody else tomorrow. And the AP wire blames the rising case numbers on climate change.

We have farmers in this country who would be proud to put their name on a head of lettuce, and instead we import it from a supplier the government will not even identify.
