@susangbarber Susan, I think your camera makes me look better than I am! It was great to be in SLC and see the reading again—but most of all the amazing readers and leadership. Thanks to College Board Higher Ed for bringing me in to help with some tours.
I know I'm late to this book, but I just finished _Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow_ by @ZevinGabrielle . It blew my mind--and more importantly, it broke my heart. I have not cried over a book in a long time. Tenderness and truth and terrible things lie so close together....
So, just going to drop this observation: When I read the Gospels, it appears that the people that Jesus rebuked the most were not women--but the religious leaders who were so bent on keeping the law that they angrily missed the love and life of the kingdom.
@AP_Trevor I want to support this third reminder--and its corollaries--as strongly as possible. What the score represents is not the same for each student or each classroom. Sometimes a "2" represents a bigger individual growth and accomplishment than a "5."
@susangbarber This is detailed and insightful. I'm interested in your rhyme lesson. I've talked to my students for awhile about the idea of rhyme suggesting connections that wouldn't otherwise be visible. . . .
Steve Price is the chief reader for #applit and his words at the close of this years reading should resonate for all of us who teach--tell your stories about students who can read and write and analyze challenging and complex texts. . .
My message to the #APLit readers after our successful 2023 reading.
Thank you, everyone, for what you've done for the students this week, reading carefully, accurately, and respectfully, from the first essay to the last. See you in 2024. Until then, be a #proudteacher!
@susangbarber Once, in Louisville, the AC was blowing so hard tables on the edges of the room had papers flying off . . .it’s nice to know that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Great story on the first graduating cohort of the Honors College at Mississippi College—so proud of their accomplishments, so interested in their futures. https://t.co/ezSyZR8wvZ
@Steve_R_Price OH OH OH! So many familiar faces! Thank you all for continuing the great conversation with these students and preparing to introduce readers to this next generation of thinkers! What a great group!
Spent 10 days in New Zealand with this years MC Honors College trip—the scenery was stunning, the people, so friendly, the experiences, so enriching. We learned so much about culture, science, literature, history…and each other! @MissCollege @mc_engphil
New Zealand with the junior Mississippi College Honors College students—visited Hobbiton, geysers in geothermal parks, indigenous Maori culture, the Southern Alps by train—and today we visited the Franz Josef Glacier. . Once in a lifetime! @mc_engphil @MissCollege
