Today, we had a metal detecting masterclass run by a local archaeologist and a past student. The students got to ask a variety of questions, see artefacts and learn how to use a metal detector whilst finding hidden items on the school grounds🕵🏼
The MFL French trip have visited the Armistice Museum in France today! Miss Weir discussed what the Armistice was and the overall events/consequences of WW1. This was a great experience for our students🇫🇷@Millfieldhighsc

Yesterday in History club, we finished ‘The Six Triple Eight’. This film is based on a true story and focuses on the 855 women who joined the war effort to address a three-year mail backlog. These women sorted 17 million pieces of mail despite discrimination and war conditions.
Last week, the pupils at Millfield have participated in the Eggstravaganza competition. The winner was Alice Glass in B2, who created Queen Elizabeth I. We also had Malala, Harald Hardrada, Henry VII, William Shakespeare and many more! Thank you for all your hard work!
Today, 35 Year 10 students went on a trip to Manchester Waterside Arts Centre. Here, they watched the Hitler on Trial production by the School History Scene. It was informative on key knowledge for the GCSE and provided them with a visual representation of figures in history.

Today in History Club, we watched the first half of the brand new film ‘The Blitz’ (2024). This film focuses on the evacuation of young children during this period of World War II. We will watch the second half of the film next week!
Over the last two weeks in History Club, we have watched One Life. This is a true story that follows the life of Nicholas Winton and focuses on how he helped 669 children escape imminent Nazi control.
Miss Weir’s history club have learnt about the Gunpowder plot today. They enjoyed a creative activity and eating s’mores! Well done to Luke who won the Gunpowder Plot Kahoot.
Fantastic couple of days in Lincoln focusing on the historic study of Lincoln castle as a site of punishment. We also squeezed in a walking tour of the city, the Usher Art Gallery, a cathedral tour and a competitive history quiz.
Lots of students took part in the History ‘About Time’ inter house competition this afternoon! It was close between the Hawks, Sharks and the Rhinos but the Sharks came out on top with the most correct timeline. This competition looked at events from 799BC to 2007.
Continuing with our theme of Black History, today in history club we looked at a number of different Black History heroes. We focused on Martin Luther King, Maya Angelou, George Washington Carver and Nelson Mandela. Here are a variety of examples of what the pupils produced!
In history club today, we started to look at Black History Month. As it is National Poetry Day on Thursday, we looked at John Agard’s poem ‘Checking out me History’ and the pupils wrote a reflection on the importance of learning about black history. We then did a quiz!
