I’ve been tucked in my protective shell trying to manage some self-care. It’s been a difficult time but I always learn a lot when I come through challenges. Not sure what Life is teaching me. Life whispers, “Shhh. It’s a surprise.” So I *cringe* and struggle through.
I’d also like to Not pick up any germs while I’m here. Not interested in becoming a frequent customer or bringing home problems to my medically fragile family members. The longer I sit in this treatment room, the more I’m ready to leave. #anxiety#autism#angst
In a medical office for the first time in 2020. I’ve been avoiding medical care. I feel mostly OK, but need to get a seal of approval. I hope I can make a good impression/Answer Q?s appropriately. It’s another social situation most people are able to glide through with ease.
The older I get, the easier it is to recognize autism all over my family tree. Unfortunately I didn’t see the best part of these people. Masking made them angry and led to self-medicating. I hope life for autistic people can become easier. There has to be a better way.
@ChantalFraser2 Thanks. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. It’s a new system and these are odd times. I’m trying to be patient but I’ve seen my #ActuallyAutistic people get the bare minimum for far too long.
My kid began his last year of high school today....from home, via the Internet. It’s going well so far, except for the class specifically created for “students with special needs.” That had zero content. And while that’s not unusual, the blatant disregard is frustrating.
To assist with visual overwhelm, I suggest completely marking out items that wouldn’t apply to you. This would assist compulsive and literal thinkers from feeling it necessary to pack and mark each item on the list.
I can’t remember where I bought a pad of these lists but they’re great. (Especially if you struggle with planning and thinking ahead.) Highly recommend. Now, where can I find one that handles Life in general? Ha!

I forgot the image alt tag. I’m sorry. The picture is a giant list broken into various categories of what to pack when traveling. It includes an area for the user to consider weather at destination. I don’t know if there’s a Braille version of the list, but there should be.
@kikachou1 Thank you. I think the storm will be moving away from us this time. We feel relief but are thinking of those who remain in the storm’s path. Harvey didn’t hit us with destructive wind, but it flooded our region nonetheless. So we’ll continue to watch and remain alert.
Boiling hot today. Moving things inside that might blow through our windows during 100mph winds. Charging back-up batteries for electronic devices. Candles, battery-operated fans, bottled water all ready to go. Autistic child on edge. Hard to prep or comfort him. #Laura
@AusomeCharlie I could use a little euphoria. That must be an interesting experience. It’s rare if I get above “Meh” or “Fine.” My son is more like you. Sometimes he’s happy enough for 3 people. Luckily, it’s contagious....but so are those lows.
For those who have read my book, The Insiders Club, and have wondered what windswept oak trees look like... I’m currently visiting the Texas gulf coast region where these are located. The seabreeze ceaselessly shapes them.
