Greetings, landlubbers! 🙂

I had an absolutely hectic week. I was out of the house every single day, running errands and bouncing between doctor appointments, the dentist, and the vet, which meant I had very little time to actively work on my author business. 

BUT I did start making amazing progress on Fire Wings, the third book in the Enchanted Skies series!

Specifically, I worked on the story framework this week. This is where I map out the character arcs, story progression, escalation, and all those interconnected pieces to make sure the story actually works and flows. 

And let me tell you, when I got to map out the ending, my heartstrings were pulled so hard that I had to just sit with it for a little while and contemplate everything Marty will be going through in this book. There is such a delicious payoff waiting at the end of this journey, but goodness, am I going to make her earn it. 😈

Next week is looking just as hectic, with multiple appointments throughout the week, but I'm hoping to carve out a little more focused time to move Steel Wings production along and get Broken Wings distribution set up and going. 

Being a full-time caregiver is a blessing, but it's also a labor of love. 

You would think going to the doctor would simply mean hopping in the car, going to the appointment, coming home, and getting straight back to work. But with an 85-year-old, there's a lot more involved. 

Typically, it takes about an hour to get ready, then another half hour to get to the doctor, including wheelchair transfers. The appointment itself can last anywhere from 10 minutes to two hours, depending on how busy the doctor is. Then it's another 30 minutes home, followed by at least an hour of decompression for both of us because, whew, that was a workout. 

But we use the time we're given wisely. We visit. We talk. We spend time together. And the work will still be waiting for me when I get back to it. 

So that was my week. A little less author-business progress than I might have hoped for, but plenty of life happening around it, and Fire Wings is starting to take shape.

Big milestone today: Steel Wings is officially approved!

For my final pass, I decided to listen to the entire book from beginning to end, and it was 150% the right decision. Hearing the story at reader-speed let me experience the pacing, character arcs, setups, and payoffs as one complete story.

And I had one of those wonderfully surreal author moments: I can’t believe I wrote this.

I also came out of the process with a new title. Wings of Steel is officially Steel Wings, a name that fits the story and its found-family journey so much better.

Next stop: production. 🪽✨
