🦢: actually, everyone on set helped me a lot. zhu ge, yang jian ge, pretty much everyone in the cast helped me. whenever i didn't know how to perform a scene, zhu ge would suddenly appear like superman and show me exactly how to act it. everyone helped me a lot

this is an old sina interview from april 2009, when juanjuan (sun fanqing/song zuer) was around 10–11 years old and 'the prelude of lotus lantern' was airing on cctv. she was still known by her childhood nickname, juanjuan (涓涓). in this interview, she's joined by her prelude of lotus lantern costar, xie ning, who portrayed zhu bajie.

watching this interview, it's easy to see why so many people believed she was born to be an actress. even as a little girl, she was bright, humble, thoughtful, and completely immersed in every scene she talked about. while everyone around her praised her natural talent, she simply talked about how much fun she was having, how exciting it was to fly on wires, and how grateful she was to the people who helped her. there's something so endearing about that 🥹

while filming novoland: eagle flag, zuer was also preparing for the gaokao (china's national college entrance examination) at the same time.

there were moments when the pressure became so overwhelming that she couldn't stop crying, but she kept reminding herself that no matter how difficult things were, each day would pass anyway. instead of giving up, she chose to endure it and keep moving forward.

because she was filming, she had to maintain her appearance on camera and barely ate, even during one of the most demanding periods of gaokao preparation. whenever she had a spare moment, she studied. balancing both wasn't easy, but she said it was the path she had chosen, so she simply kept pushing through.

all of her hard work paid off in the end when she was admitted to the beijing film academy 🥹

for those who are unaware, on august 27, 2024, her studio issued an official statement stating that she had been investigated by the tax authorities, had not committed tax evasion or tax fraud, and had not received any administrative tax penalties.

what saddens me most is that she spent nearly 2 years away from the public eye during one of the most important stages of her career. those are years she'll never be able to get back.

it's easy to remember a headline, but much harder to remember the person who had to live through everything that followed.
