We adults always talk about what youth need in sport. Here is an opportunity to listen to 3 teens who all make an impact in this space. Very exciting Brandon @MindDesignSport and two local Adelaide girls.
Positive self talk can often inspire positive performance. If you tell yourself you will lose, you prepare for failure. However, when you tell yourself that winning is a clear possibility, you set yourself up for success. Simple yet effective, this boosts confidence/performance.
Design a training program or join a club such that your training mimics race-like conditions. This type of simulation with conditions that you will be facing during the competition is a very effective way of practice.
Focus on the task and not the outcome, think about the present and not the finish. This will help you in relaxing and enjoying the event instead of worrying about it and having negative thoughts. If you have negative thoughts, focus on your breathing.
Remembering that our mental state is attached to our emotional state is crucial in order to best maintain optimal performance. Stay in control of the relationships around you and make sure to sustain them; emotions are powerful, so harness them to your benefit.

A huge part of many competitive sports is anger; when emotions run high and our physical selves become tired/agitated, it is impossible for us not to become frustrated. Redirecting this anger to the sport instead of wasting it, however, is an essential to maximize performance.
As we roll into Summer, a rather obvious yet neglected tip is to wear sunscreen. While a burn may eventually go away, its impact on our body temperature and energy levels leads to a stark decrease in performance ability. Take care of your body!
