Mormons are taught to be kind and helpful to everyone, Trump is brazen, and well, Trump. A lot have a visceral reaction to him that perceived as un-Christian and scary so they move towards the left. Especially, Mormon women. They want a guy that listens and is strong, yet soft and Christlike. They vote against their well being because of this. I’ve lived here 10 years and have met many.

I have couple of friends/family who are on the left and they haven’t officially canceled me. When I see them I talk about things not related to politics and all is well. If politics come up I tell them “let’s stick to topics we enjoy together”. Usually works. When it doesn’t I let them get it off their chest and just warmly put my hand on their arm and then ask about their job etc…I like to guide the conversation back to them.

Utah county is generally more conservative than Salt Lake County, but you never know. There is a lot of suicidal empathy in Utah. IMO, when generational Mormons leave the faith they go so far to the left as an act of rebellion they lose rationality. I’ve lived here 10 years moved from CA. Conservatives here are way less conservative than California.
