I am V. God Lover, trumpet player of the Original Pinettes Brass Band, drummer at St. Peter Claver… putting a bounce beat to your favorite gospel song.
Dawg there was a baby on our row on the plane. The baby didn’t cry. It yelled… talked… to the top of her lungs from New Orleans to New York.
I have never experienced such a thing but I really wanted lil baby to shhh and everyone else did too. 😭😒
Boy I remember this time last year me and my momma got in a big ole fuss about how she shouldn’t be traveling and going to this conference about to go to.
She went… it was her last trip and here I am preparing this year without her. Tough dawg.
I cried like a baby when the announced me band director at Roots. Mostly because I wish my mom was physically here to see this.
I just know she working overtime in the next realm everything coming to me.
When I was a kid I always said I wanted to be a band director… then I abandoned it. I got weary after my experience in high school and I never saw a great female band director.
Now I’m the head band director at one of the best band programs in the city. God heard lil V!
Today is my mom’s 70th birthday. As tough as it is, I saw a white heron on my way to put flowers on her grave this morning. Told her what’s to come and now I’m on my way to a news interview about what’s next in my life.
Always my guide. Love you ma! I’m carrying you forever. 🕊️
