@RaizexFnm@qszac1x Imagine if the mobile servers shut down tomorrow. You couldn’t play the game at all, even on old servers.
All content creators took a big risk going all in on Fortnite Mobile. Epic don’t employ them.
If epic were greedy they wouldn’t wreck their revenue to win this case.
To all the mobile content creators that feel betrayed, I understand, this sucks hard core. Everything was sudden and abrupt.
However, epic games DO NOT OWE YOU ANYTHING. This case is unprecedented, they couldn’t tell you what they were going to do beforehand for legal reasons.
@Surfnboy Other companies have tried and failed to go head to head on Apple about this.
Think about Spotify when they tried to lower the 30% Apple tax. Literally nothing changed.
Sadly epic don’t owe you anything. It was all your decision to become a Fortnite Mobile content creator.
@imgoldenyt Epic probably aren’t 100% sure because they want to wait and see what Apple will do.
You know that it will have to be mobile only matchmaking if we’re on a different season update to console and pc.
My guess is that epic don’t want this to drag out but it will, Apple can wait.
@imgoldenyt I’d love to talk.
Having just quit Fortnite a couple of weeks ago I feel like I would have an interesting perspective that other people might not have.
I have also read the entire complaint from epic so I would like to think I understand this quite well.
@Surfnboy@imgoldenyt After reading the document this is more about the epic games launcher than the 30% cut.
Epic really want to add their own launcher to iOS and a huge part of the complaint is talking about how you can download steam and epic games launcher on Macs but not iPhones.
@TheMobileMatt That's really odd. I didn't think google forced you to use their payment system like apple did.
Looks like the argument 'you have a choice you can just use andriod' doesn't hold much water.
@HoulotPierre@EpicGames@Apple Apple force all apps on their store to use apple’s payment system (of which Apple takes 30% of the gross income)
Epic don’t want people paying more on iOS and so they’ve decided to go all out against Apple.
This is a really really big deal. If @EpicGames win their case against @Apple and are allowed to have a custom payment method on Fortnite it will open the door to so many companies who cannot be profitable with apple’s mandatory 30% cut.
Not sure how Apple will try to argue this
@apollosux@EpicGames@Apple Oh yeah epic knew what they were doing.
They disagree with apple’s policies and trying to solve it quietly didn’t work, so now epic are going to get millions of people to hate Apple and hope that will cause them to back down.
Apple makes a LOT of money from this though...
@brokencornflake@EpicGames@Apple Apple got baited hard by epic here. I thought that they had agreed a deal on the side when announcing the direct payments scheme but this announcement shows that epic are super super serious.
It’s very bad in the short term but honestly this gives me mad respect for epic games.
