I'll explain myself better. I'm casting doubts regardless of where #TheFirstJasmine plot is going, because I feel Bai Lu has hitten a plateau from being overworked. She gets the job done in costume dramas w the same formulaic acting (exception being One&Only). Once you've seen her in a costume drama, you've seen them all (we will see abt TFJ, still some way to go). You say she acts like this because of her mental state in TFJ? But this is the same acting she's given us before. I hope she can pick more emotionally challenging roles that aren't limited by idol romance/tomboyish writing. Her portrayal of conflicted characters comes across as stoic and nonchalant a lot of times. I do not care how popular she is or how sweet she is offline because those are not factors that should dictate how good an actor is at emoting. And a lot of Chinese actors/actresses are boxed the same way she is into repeat copy/paste performances. She at least seems to have the talent to branch out of it.
