In college I was playing Skate 2 by myself in my bedroom one day when I got the most debilitating panic attack. Nearly full blown derealization. Felt like I was watching myself in 3rd person. My actions suddenly felt like pure instinct.

I observed myself get up to turn the xbox off, walk out of my apartment, and go for a walk along the local trail. I walked for hours, didn't look at my phone once.

During that walk, I could feel my subconsious explaining to me why it had done this. Sitting in a chair, doing a simulated activity, by myself, with no tangible reward mechanism or payoff. Wasting time and potential. Not even doing the bare minimum of playing a game together with friends as a social activity.

I haven't been able to sit and play a non couch-coop video game for longer than 20 minutes since that day.
