Love isn't always the grand gesture. Sometimes it's the way he remembered I don't like onions. The way I still buy his coffee brand even though he's gone. Love lives in the small things we continue to do out of habit. And habits are just love wearing comfortable shoes.
Mornings are hardest. Not because the night was long, but because the sun comes in and illuminates what's missing—the second toothbrush, the other coffee cup. I've learned to make my bed anyway. To fill the silence with my own movements.
I found your old letter in a box of winter clothes. The paper was yellow, but your words were still blue—the blue of a sky we shared. I folded it back, returned it to the box. Some things are too fragile to be handled too often. Some memories are best kept in storage.
The kitten caught a moth and brought it to my feet—proud, trembling with excitement. It didn't understand that the moth was already dying. But I thanked it anyway. Because sometimes, the gift isn't what's given, but the joy in the giving.
The stray cat returned tonight, thinner than before. I put out food and watched it eat—each bite hesitant, as if apologizing for its hunger. We are both survivors of lonely cities, I thought. And survival, sometimes, is just showing up, knowing someone might be waiting.
@MarjoOllikainen@Nordea_Aspa Hei Marjo,
Laita yv.
