In Jesus’s genealogy in Matthew 1:6 Bathsheba is referred to as “Uriah’s wife.” She could have been dubbed David’s wife or just Bathsheba. But I believe Matthew is showing honor to Uriah who was unjustly murdered.
John 1: baptism by water
John 2: water to wine
John 3:man needs to be born of water
John 4: woman at the well
John 5: man healed next to water
John 9: man healed by water.
John 13: washing disciples feet
John 19: Jesus blood flows like water
John 21: Jesus finds Peter fishing
Cynicism is a thief of imagination and joy. “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” By this I don’t think Jesus means simply being vulnerable. I think he means with curiosity and wonder.
Ppl being into horoscopes is such ancient and healthy wisdom. The magi/wisemen who encountered Jesus studied the stars, in Daniel astrology is considered “wisdom and understanding”, and god confirms to Sarah and Abraham their promises through the stars.
Jesus told a tale of two sons where one was obedient after stating he wouldn’t be and the other was disobedient after he said he would be obedient. Jesus seems to be creating a category of ppl that say no to Christ but yes to the path of love, human care, and compassion.
@ErikReed These guys use prayer to complement meaningful ideas to save lives. Conservative politicians consistently use prayer as theater with no attempt to find solutions, and they consistently dismiss the impact of policy and choose to push culture war narratives, which is fascist.
Conservatives think it’s moral to give more guns to more people as more kids get shot, ban educational material, deny people healthcare, plant our military in 80+ other countries, pay people $7.25/hr, police who people can marry, and force women to give birth against their will.
Conservatives are always saying, "If we do this moral thing, then it will give the left permission to do this immoral thing, so let's agree to do nothing."
I promise, with or without permission the left is already planning on doing that immoral thing.
Just do the right thing.
The religious right in America has held a virtual monopoly over the paradigm through which scripture is viewed. The religious left is now emerging and we argue that scripture may have significant progressive leanings.

In the drama between Chris Rock and Jada and Will Smith we are arguing that there may be a hint of colorism and classism operating in Jada and Will’s favor and dissect Chris’s recent stand up.

Evangelicals have inflicted infinitely more pain on children and gay people in their fight for “traditional/family values” than gay people have by being open with their sexuality.
@SIfill_ It is impossible to own another human being’s body, restrict their autonomy and authentically say you care for their physical and mental well-being. There is no such thing as a benevolent slave owner.
Aggressive censorship and restrictions on progressive literature and resources is becoming a major issue in k-12 education. Our hosts walk through the history of the Black Church in order to challenge the notion that we don’t need this historical education

Report: Investigation has found that #Broncos QB Russell Wilson’s foundation has spent just 24.3 cents of every dollar on charitable activities in 2020 and 2021 combined.
The foundation has raised millions, but only a quarter of it goes to charity.

@MattWalshBlog Slave owners used black slaves as managers on plantations. Confederates enlisted thousands of black slaves in their militaries. Rome used Jews as tax collectors to oppress other Jews.
It’s foolish to think black people can’t act within white supremacist systems.
@jasonwhitlock Too many police officers have been programmed to hate and fear unarmed black people. That hate and fear sparks resistance, which elevates frustration.
