Let’s not reduce #ByeonWooseok’s career to one hit wonder.

2024 made him a global phenomenon, but he didn’t appear out of nowhere. He had already spent years working and building his career before that.

Fun fact: in 2023, even before Strong Girl Nam-soon and before Ryu Shi-oh became so loved, Wooseok held a Japan fanmeeting across two sessions at Yamano Hall with 1,600 tickets.

And this weekend I saw a very popular actor, currently a main lead in an A-list show, holding a Tokyo fanmeeting for around 1,900 people.

That really puts Wooseok’s 2023 scale into perspective. The audience was already there before the leading-man era fully arrived.

And honestly, by my observation, the biggest turning point was when he left BH Entertainment and joined newly created Varo.

That move was the real deal. Varo seemed to understand what they had, gave him the right direction, and helped turn years of work into the career we see today.

2024 was the boom.

But the foundation was already there.

The official National Assembly report on the Perfect Crown petition is out. The bottom line? The drama will NOT be removed or banned from streaming platforms like Disney+. Under current Korean law, the gov has no legal authority to force OTT content deletions.

"2. Mandatory Deletion from VOD / OTT Platforms (Pages 8–9)

Feasibility: Not possible under current law.

Legal Bottleneck: Under Article 22-5 of the Telecommunications Business Act, OTT platforms (value-added telecommunications operators) are only legally obligated to delete or block illegal explicit recordings and child exploitation material.

Conclusion: The government currently lacks legal authority to force streaming platforms like Disney+ or Wavve to pull fictional content. Doing so would require passing new overarching legislation, such as the proposed Audiovisual Media Services Act (Bill No. 2219343 sponsored by Rep. Choi Min-hee)."

The National Assembly ‼️review is officially out: there is no government “delete button” for a K-drama.

Under Article 22-5 of the Telecommunications Business Act, the removal obligation covers illegal filming and related illegal material. It does not give the government a general power to erase a fictional drama because of historical controversy.

So the petition could demand Perfect Crown be removed, but it could not make that happen.
