@ModestTeacher obviously the students won't read the objective if you just write it and never address it. I go over it every day and now my students read it as soon as they enter. Helps us stay focused. It's not just there as a checklist item, you're supposed to incorporate it 🤦♀️
I struggle as a teacher with taking the importance out of grades for students because I was raised to believe they were all that mattered and I still get anxiety on any sort of performance review, especially if I don't get perfect scores 😔
my third graders are performing original pieces for the recorder next week and while rehearsing today I had a breakthrough with this group of boys who are so tough behaviorally and it literally made my whole week
I said on social media, it's a shame that teachers/schools are celebrating Valentine's Day today; yet there is no mention of Lunar New Year, one of the largest global celebrations; and she said "but many of us don't have Asian students in our class." This is problematic. /1
Public schools are not failing students.
Public school teachers are not failing students.
The system is failing public schools, teachers and students.
Stop saying public schools and teachers are failing students when the system is setting them up to fail.
The volume of a classroom should not be an indicator of the quality of the teacher. Loud classrooms are not necessarily managed poorly and quiet ones don't indicate learning is always happening. #CodeBreaker
2nd grade's first big composition project! I'm really excited and proud of their work, you can see the variance in how they notated the body percussion. Will share the vids once I've had a chance to edit
Discussing teaching techniques with new colleagues makes me so excited about my new job! I can't wait to teach music this year and finally put my BME to good use
Tip: if you're bad with names and your school has a photo database of students, and you teach many many students that you dont see as often (ie specials) take some time each night to practise 5-10 students names. It wont take that long, and it means so much to them #teachertips

Teachers, we have such a huge responsibility to teach critically through research and discourse to build a more equitable future. It's called the PRACTICE of teaching for a reason, we have to unlearn our own cultural biases, we are always learning to be better teachers
