As schools close for the August holidays, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have intensified a nationwide sensitisation campaign against drug and substance abuse, reaching learners and communities across the country to promote awareness and strengthen prevention efforts.

In Lunga Lunga, ANU detectives, working alongside detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), engaged Junior Secondary School learners at Ngathini Comprehensive School, equipping them with knowledge on the dangers of drug and substance abuse and empowering them to make informed and responsible choices.

In Malindi, ANU detectives sensitised students at Malindi High School on drug prevention, reporting mechanisms, and the importance of seeking counselling and support.

At Alliance High School, ANU detectives engaged students with key messages on the dangers of drugs and the importance of resisting substance abuse.

Meanwhile, in Kijipwa Location, Mtwapa, ANU detectives, together with the area Chief and Assistant Chief, engaged Nyumba Kumi leaders and Village Security Committee members on identifying commonly abused drugs, strengthening community vigilance, and enhancing collaboration in efforts to disrupt drug trafficking through information sharing.

The campaign comes at a critical time as schools break for the August holidays, a period when learners may be more susceptible to negative influences and peer pressure.

By investing in prevention through education, awareness and community partnerships, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) aims to equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to make positive choices while reinforcing a shared responsibility in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

As learners begin the holiday, parents and guardians are encouraged to remain actively engaged by fostering open conversations, providing guidance, and creating supportive environments that help children make safe, informed and responsible decisions.

Detectives from DCI Central, Nairobi, have arrested four suspects linked to an employment fraud syndicate that targeted unsuspecting job seekers by falsely claiming they were in a position to secure employment in the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

The arrests followed investigations into a complaint by a victim who reported losing Sh600,000 after being lured with promises of an NIS job.

To make the scheme appear legitimate, the suspects allegedly issued her with a fake NIS calling letter purporting that she had been successfully recruited.

Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives trailed and arrested the four suspects: Patrick Kibor, Moses Tarus Kibor, Humphrey Ngeiywo Kutuli, and Abraham Kimeli.

Upon arrest, detectives recovered several documents believed to be linked to the fraudulent scheme. The documents are undergoing forensic examination to establish their authenticity and determine the full extent of the syndicate’s operations.

The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment.

Members of the public are reminded that recruitment into government agencies follows established procedures and does not require payment at any stage. Anyone asked to part with money in exchange for employment should treat it as a scam and report the matter immediately.

DCI SENSITIZES RECRUITS ON COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has today concluded a two-day Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) sensitisation programme for General Service Unit (GSU) recruits at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘B’ Campus.

The sensitisation, conducted by facilitators from the Directorate of CVE, sought to strengthen the recruits’ understanding of emerging terrorism and violent extremism threats, radicalisation processes, and contemporary extremist tactics increasingly driven by technological advancement and online influence.

The training equipped the recruits with practical knowledge and skills aimed at enhancing their capacity to identify, prevent and respond to violent extremism and terrorism-related threats while safeguarding communities from radicalisation and recruitment into extremist networks.

Key areas covered during the programme included radicalisation pathways and recruitment patterns, protective security awareness, identification of suspicious persons and activities, and evolving violent extremist threats in Kenya.

Participants were also sensitised on Kenya’s legal and policy frameworks on countering violent extremism, and the role of the National Police Service in CVE.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Directorate to enhance the preparedness and operational effectiveness of security officers in addressing evolving security threats facing the country.

The DCI reaffirms its commitment to strengthening national security through continuous capacity building, intelligence-led policing, multi-agency collaboration, and community-centred approaches aimed at preventing radicalisation, disrupting extremist networks, and protecting Kenyans from terrorism and violent extremism.

19 SUSPECTS ARRAIGNED IN SH14 BILLION SACCO FRAUD SCANDAL

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters Investigations Bureau have today brought before court nineteen individuals linked to a sophisticated fraud scheme that saw a Sacco lose over Sh14 billion.

The matter came to light after the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority submitted a formal request to the DCI, urging an inquiry into serious allegations of financial misconduct and embezzlement by Sacco officials.

An immediate investigation unveiled a web of deceit, where Sacco officials acted in concert, blatantly violating their fiduciary duties. They manipulated financial records, irregularly transferred members’ funds, unlawfully disbursed loans, and failed to account for significant amounts entrusted to their care.

Two interconnected fraudulent schemes were identified. The first saw a decade-long manipulation of loan disbursement figures from 2012 to 2021, leading to fictitious loans totalling an astonishing Sh13,483,350,322.

The second scheme involved the illegitimate formation and operation of an Investment Cooperative Society Limited. This was a facade that allowed officials to divert Sacco funds, misappropriating Sh750,766,304 under the guise of land acquisition and investment opportunities in Kitengela.

The suspects, comprising former and current officials of the Sacco, include Christopher Kahuno, Samuel Ndungu, John Kimani, James Kamau, Patrick Kimando, Francis Kamau, Benson Mwangi, Paul Wathika, Geoffrey Kamau, Duncan Chege, Francis Wachiuru, George Mwihia, Daniel Lee, Joseph Gachunga, Boniface Muthama, Rosemary Njeri, Edward Duncan, Lucy Njambi, and James Mutaiga. They now face a barrage of charges, including conspiracy to defraud, stealing by directors or officers, fraudulent false accounting, obtaining credit by false pretences, failure to maintain proper books of accounts, and operating non-core investment businesses without statutory approval, among other offences.

Appearing before the Milimani Law Courts today, all the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted a bond of Sh200,000 with one surety each. The case is set for mention on June 22, 2026.

The DCI remains steadfast in its commitment to dismantling complex financial crime networks and protecting millions of hardworking Kenyans who rely on Saccos as pillars of economic empowerment and financial security.

TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED OVER FORGED LAND DOCUMENTS

Detectives from the DCI Headquarters Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) have arrested two suspects linked to separate cases involving forged land ownership documents and fraudulent property transfers in Mlolongo and Nairobi’s Westlands area.

In the first case, detectives arrested Harrison Kabiru Mugo over an alleged scheme involving forged ownership documents for a prime parcel of land in Mlolongo.

Investigations were launched after a complainant reported that unknown individuals were allegedly in possession of a fake title deed and were plotting to illegally subdivide and sell her land without consent.

Investigations established that the suspects had indeed orchestrated a fraudulent transfer of the property using forged documents.

Upon conclusion of investigations, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), who approved the charging of Harrison Kabiru Mugo alongside three accomplices who remain at large.

In a separate but related case, detectives arrested John Mwaura over the alleged fraudulent transfer of land parcel located in Nairobi’s Westlands area.

The investigations stemmed from a complaint lodged by the registered owners of the property, who reported that the land had been irregularly transferred to another individual through suspected forged documents.

Following comprehensive investigations, the case file was forwarded to the ODPP, which approved the prosecution of the suspects.

However, efforts to trace and arrest the accused persons, identified as John Mwaura and Abdisalan Adan, initially proved futile after they allegedly went into hiding, prompting the Milimani Law Courts to issue summons and later warrants of arrest.

Acting on the warrants issued on April 28, 2026, detectives launched a manhunt that culminated in the arrest of John Mwaura at his hideout in Nairobi’s Utawala area.

The suspects are currently in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment.

Meanwhile, detectives are actively pursuing the remaining suspects linked to the two cases as investigations continue to dismantle land fraud networks operating within the country.

TANZANIAN NATIONAL BEHIND BRUTAL MURDER OF 11-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED IN KISAUNI

What began as a desperate search for a missing child has culminated in a breakthrough, following the arrest of the prime suspect behind the brutal murder of 11-year-old Glorious Kaiza Maore.

The minor was reported missing on March 15, 2026, after failing to return home from Sunday school practice, a disappearance that would later unravel into a chilling tale of cruelty.

Days later, in Manyani area, a horrifying discovery was made when children playing nearby stumbled upon a sack with a human hand protruding from it. Police officers were alerted, and upon inspection, the lifeless body of the young girl was found inside, bound with a rope in a calculated attempt to conceal the crime.

A postmortem examination conducted at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital confirmed the worst: Glorious had been defiled before being strangled to death, a heart-wrenching violation of innocence.

Detectives from Kisauni immediately launched investigations, piecing together crucial leads that pointed to Anthony Juma, aka Kipara, as the prime suspect. However, the suspect had fled, leaving behind an abandoned house where partially burnt clothes and beddings were recovered, evidence of a failed attempt to destroy crucial exhibits.

A manhunt ensued, and on April 12, 2026, the suspect was finally arrested, marking a significant breakthrough in the case. He was subsequently arraigned at the Shanzu Law Courts under a miscellaneous application, where detectives sought custodial orders to allow for completion of investigations.

On April 13, 2026, the court granted a 21-day custodial order, enabling investigators to finalise forensic analysis and strengthen the case ahead of prosecution.

The suspect, who is a Tanzanian national who operates locally as a garbage collector without formal identification, remains in custody as investigations continue, with the matter coming up for mention on May 4th May, 2026.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations thanks members of the public for their cooperation and assures Kenyans that justice for the young victim remains a top priority.

CRACKDOWN ON CRIMINAL GANGS

Nine suspected members of a notorious criminal gang have been arrested in a decisive, intelligence-led operation targeting criminal groups in Trans Nzoia West Sub-County.

The operation, carried out by a joint team of officers from DCI Headquarters and Kitale Police Station, zeroed in on Premium and Tuwani areas, hotspots that have recently been plagued by gang activity.

Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, the officers swooped in and netted the nine suspects, effectively dismantling a group that has been terrorising residents and disrupting public order.

The suspects are currently in custody undergoing processing as they await arraignment.

PHANTOM PISTOL RECOVERED, SUSPECTS NABBED IN KISUMU

A team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters has apprehended two suspects and seized a Phantom pistol in Kisumu.

Acting on intelligence, the detectives set a strategic ambush along the bustling Kisumu-Busia Highway.

Their patience paid off when they intercepted a sleek black Toyota Prado, registration number KCB 411A, occupied by two individuals whose fate was about to take a dramatic turn.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a Phantom pistol, glimmering menacingly in the afternoon sun, alongside a machete snugly housed in a black sheath and three mobile phones, all potential instruments of crime.

Identified as Evans Otieno Ongere and Abel Onyango Owuor, the suspects were swiftly taken into custody.

With their arrest, an important chapter in the fight against crime was written, as the duo, along with the recovered items and the impounded vehicle, were escorted to the Maseno Police Station for processing pending arraignment.

Meanwhile, the confiscated items and the vehicle are being detained as crucial exhibits in the ongoing investigation.
