Tennis upgrading and economics downgrading.
Satire and fact. I have also watched a lot more movies than you.

The advice I got 20 years ago—& have passed on since—was to aim high: better journals, smarter referees. Today I update that prior: parsing elementary math is seemingly optional for "a normal economic theorist". Since AI clears the entry bar, perhaps it should get the assignment.
Unclear where the offence lies: in "we economists", where a fringe sermon abducts the field; in "have done the maths", as if arithmetic laundered ideology; or in "growth is doomed", prophecy in a lab coat. Arrogant ignorance clearly enjoys compound growth!

PS: if anyone at the AEA is reading (doubt it but who knows) I do have a suggestion for next year that would not require changing fields at all (!)--a bit like the Nobel committee did a one-two on growth recently.
I think the name is obvious to anyone in Macro.
