‘Affection’ was the first independently released single from Jody Watley for Avitone in 1995. Fast forward 2022
Jody Watley performing before 50,000 attendees at Capitol Pride in 2022—one of the largest Pride celebrations in the United States. 🌈✨
For decades, Jody Watley has been a steadfast supporter of LGBTQ+ equality, Pride events, and HIV/AIDS awareness. Long before it was common for mainstream artists to do so, she used her platform to advocate for love, inclusion, and human dignity.
In the late 1980s and 1990s, she participated in the groundbreaking HIV/AIDS awareness project Red, Hot & Blue and released her bold and heartfelt single “Affection.” Despite being advised by some that acknowledging or supporting the LGBTQ+ community could hurt her career, she chose authenticity over fear.
As Jody reflected:
"I wasn't trying to be controversial. As always, my writing is from the heart, and I firmly believe everyone needs to feel love. If it cost me support, I could live with choices rooted in love and equality."
From performing at the massive Gay Games in Chicago to facing resistance from certain radio stations because of her outspoken support, she remained committed to her principles.
More than an iconic artist, Jody Watley is regarded by many as a true LGBTQ+ ally and Gay Icon—an honor earned through decades of advocacy, visibility, and unwavering support. Her invitation to perform at one of the nation's largest Pride events is a testament to a legacy built on music, authenticity, love, and equality.

@ninaturner You know - if you had a quarter of the smoke for MAGA-Republicans as you do for moderate-to-liberal Democrats, then more people wouldn’t regard you with such disdain. You seem like a Trojan horse in a crucial battle for social justice.
@ninaturner@DNC You call out others so easily, yet you find it easy to sew the seeds of chaos even when Dems have victories and opposing an existential threat like Donald Trump is paramount. You aren't about good trouble like John Lewis; you're an insidious MAGA tactic causing madness!

@ninaturner@KillerMike And Jill Stein only seems to appear during Presidential elections to confound confused so-called progressives like yourself. He’s Clarence Thomas “left-leaning” counterpart, and you don’t care about winning for progressive causes, but just maintaining conflict without reasonable
@ninaturner@KillerMike Killer Mike is an agent of chaos and division, as you are! He platformed RFK Jr., who recently made disparaging remarks about black parents. And you endorsed Butch Ware, who is anti-trans and was subordinate to Jill Stein, who is essentially a paid political hack!
Happy birthday, Marvin. You are missed. Handsome. Charming, onstage and off. What a talented man. I was thrilled to have been invited to present at the American Music Awards with you.

Amid the chaos, the noise, and the tension, Punch 🙏🏽, an abandoned baby macaque in Japan #Punch appears to remind us - “we all need someone or something to love.. to bring hope, love, lift our spirits..” sometimes it comes from unexpected circumstances you have to create and find joy in yourself when shunned by others. Adversity- perseverance.
It made me think of some of the lyrics in my song “Whenever” ❤️✨To all the Punches in the world- in the midst of life’s challenges- find your joy, your peace-and keep going 🙏🏽✨
@votetimscott You’ve done nothing but kiss Trump’s arse, in the hopes of advancing your career. Yes it was racist and offensive, but you are not the one to call it out!
Today, we mourn as we say farewell to Harry Stewart Jr., a legendary Tuskegee Airman and World War II fighter pilot, who passed away at the age of 100. With his final ascent, the world loses not only a hero, but a pioneer who dared to rise when the odds were stacked against him. At just 18 years old, Harry enlisted in the Army Air Corps, stepping forward in a time when courage required more than bravery, it demanded resilience in the face of injustice. He answered the call anyway. Through 43 perilous combat missions, he flew straight into danger, carrying the weight of a nation’s hope and the determination to prove that excellence knows no color.🕊️🇺🇸✈️
In one extraordinary day, Harry achieved three aerial victories, a testament to his skill, fearlessness, and unwavering resolve. As part of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first all-Black American fighter squadron of World War II, he and his brothers shattered enemy formations and long-standing barriers alike, earning respect in the skies and helping reshape the future on the ground.
Now, the pilot who once guarded freedom from above has completed his final mission. His wings are at rest, but his legacy continues to soar, etched into history, carried forward by every door he helped open.
