Mirror Group Network hosted a Refugee Engagement Forum (REF) feedback meeting to update refugee community members on the outcomes of the recent REF meeting held in Kampala.

From learning to earning!

80 out-of-school girls and young women from refugee and host communities in Kampala have received start-up kits after completing vocational training under the Spotlight Initiative to End Violence Against Women and Girls.

The first beneficiaries to receive support were graduates of the hairdressing programme, equipped with salon tools to help them begin their entrepreneurial journeys immediately.

Through skills in hairdressing, tailoring, bakery, catering, driving and welding, these young women are building pathways to self-reliance, dignity and economic independence.

Together with our partners, we are investing in a future free from poverty, inequality and gender-based violence.

On Day 2 of the startup kit distribution at Wakaliga Spoke Centre, out-of-school girls who completed 6 months of tailoring training under the Spotlight Initiative to End Violence Against Women and Girls in Urban, received sewing machines, fabric, and other tailoring tools to help them start businesses, earn incomes, and build independent futures.

This support is helping young women gain skills, create livelihoods, and reduce their vulnerability to GBV.

Today, 16 women from refugee and host communities who completed 6 months of bakery training received starter kits at Mirror Group Network Training Center in Wakaliga.

These kits are more than equipment, they're a pathway to income, entrepreneurship, and greater independence, helping women support their families and build safer, more resilient futures.
