Alan Rickman played the role of Aphrodite in the satirical epic drama “The Truth about Troy“ during the annual Christmas Jantaculum at Latymer Upper School, December 1963

The Gild at Latymer Upper School was deliberately modelled on medieval trade guilds, complete with archaic titles and a pseudo-historical structure. Its governing council, known as the Curia, consisted of student and staff officers bearing such medieval-sounding offices as Custos, Reve, Steward, and Chamberlayne.

In 1963 Alan Rickman was appointed The Chamberlayne.
The Chamberlayne was the officer responsible for the wardrobe: managing, sourcing and often designing the costumes for the Gild’s productions and its celebrated annual Christmas revue, the Jantaculum.

While serving in this capacity, he played the role of Aphrodite in the Gild’s production of the satirical epic drama “The Truth about Troy“
