@cvanderlinden08 @Ms_Mara_Benson Yes! I had to accept that starting class 10-15 minutes late because we were having fun and getting to know each other was more important than staying on a tight schedule.

A3: Building a community when you're all staring at blank screens is hard. However, I greet each student by name & open each class with a non-academic ice-breaker (Show me your pet! What are you snacking on?). We also have class discussions & work in breakout rooms #NNPSChat

@MrsAdamsTeach I tell you what, the day I asked them to show off their pets was the most joyful day of virtual teaching I've had yet! Puppies, cats, and a bunny! It's nice to connect on a human level.

A2: Weekly overviews & to-do lists are key! I tell my students & families to look at the Canvas calendar to see the upcoming work for each week. I also encourage them to make a physical list on paper if that's what they need (I'm a pencil-paper planner person myself). #NNPSChat

A1: I wish I had realized I cannot just replicate what I used to do in person in the virtual realm. Assignments take longer, and some things just do not work virtually. I would go back and prioritize texts/skills/assignments to choose fewer and spend more time on each. #NNPSChat

Trying not to be offended that the English curriculum this year includes Billy Joel’s “The Stranger” but for 11th grade (which I don’t teach 😔)

My FAVORITE lesson of the year was always when I’d bring in my record player and The Stranger vinyl during our LotF unit.
