@MissSFEnglish We used to be super rigid. Now I teach topic sentence, supporting detail, analysis & Writer's intent. Still giving them structure but less limitation in how they write the paragraph. Our topic sentences have a formula for supporting students too.
What structure do people use for analytical writing? Do people feel there is a benefit for using this set structure from KS3 all through KS4? Or should this scaffolding be removed for 80% of students? Interested to hear thoughts!
NEW RESOURCE: I’ve been experimenting with @Xris32 style ‘phrase banks’ over the past term to much success! Here are the AIC ones I’ve used in my class. Great discussions had over what each phrase means and how we can use them appropriately and effectively in our writing. Use/chuck: https://t.co/xPMxPC5FyI
A huge thank you once again to whomever had shared the fabulour one-pagers earlier in the year. I've replicated the style once again to create a similar one on word level analysis and will happily have positive criticism on it. https://t.co/czKTIYwAb4
Teachers I need your input:
How do you feel about someone being second and whole school reading lead being given 5 frees (one sacrificed to an ITT) and without consultation tutor time being used as PPA periods?
@SecondaryUk Love this idea. Thank you! I am going to think about how I could use this, as my students are so weak and really struggle to retain information and I think this could help!
@SecondaryUk Do you annotate the poem first and then ask them to do their key ideas and quotes around the image? I am starting to realise how boring my lesson are compared to some of the content I see here! Were your images AI created?
@K2SR7 I guess I am really interested in how you build your paragraphs and get students to articulate the thought process in their books, but I also want all your resources 😂 your booklets look amazing! Will defo have to get them.
Addressing a gap from our most recent assessment, the homework task explored the theme of violence across the whole play👊That concludes a really impactful feedback loop🏴➰
Getting in the reps with our G-S-T introductions! Slowly taking away the scaffolding, we continue to develop the ability to introduce any character or theme across any topic!🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️
For those doing war poetry units, don’t just include historical conflicts, read this, it’s so so sad. #TeamEnglish war poetry units are, and always have been, political.
Inspired by #edutwitter - trialled a 'controlled' quotation explosion 💥 with an emphasis on highlighting the difference between word zooms and inferences VS methods and their effects... 🔍 📚 #teamenglish#aqalanguage#gcseenglish#ECTEnglish
Really successful lesson crafting our introductions today 💪 Using our G-S-T structure has allowed us to develop a clear routine to consciously craft our openings 💭
