“A report does not write a country’s future. The future is written by the choices we make when the applause fades and the real work begins. With 83% of Gambians under 36, our greatest challenge is also our greatest opportunity. The problem is not a lack of potential, but a lack of pathways. This Report is a call to action to create the skills, opportunities and decent jobs that will enable young people to drive The Gambia’s inclusive and sustainable development.” — @HajaBintaBarry, @UNDP_TheGambia's Economist.

Women in Jerreng Protest Health Minister with Song
Women of Jerreng in CRR South staged a civilized protest before visiting Health Minister Dr. Lamin Samateh. Through a composed local song, they voiced deep concern over the lack of health facilities and medicines in rural clinics.
Samba Jallow, Team Leader for Inclusive Growth speaking on behalf of UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. @mmashologu1 emphasized that gender equality is not only a human rights imperative but also fundamental to building effective, accountable, and inclusive public institutions.
"Institutions that integrate gender into their policies, systems, budgets, and decision-making processes are better equipped to respond to the needs of all citizens and to contribute meaningfully to national development” he said.
As implementation begins, @UNDP 🇬🇲remains committed to supporting public institutions in promoting inclusive governance, strengthening public trust, and advancing The Gambia's commitments under the YIRIWAA National Development Plan, #SDG5 (Gender Equality) and #SDG16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
Together, we are building institutions that work better for everyone.

Before you sleep tonight, place your hand on your chest and say this.
Ya Allah, You are Al-Jabbar. You mend what is broken and You restore what has been lost. My heart has been carrying something I do not always have the words for. You know what it is. You have always known. I am asking You tonight not to leave me alone with it. Hold what I cannot hold. Heal what I cannot heal. And when the morning comes, let me feel even the smallest sign that You are working on what I brought to You.
Ameen.
If convicted on all counts, he could face a maximum of roughly 30 years in prison, according to Wisconsin sentencing guidelines. Under state law, the attempted arson charge carries up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. The recklessly endangering safety count carries up to 10 years and a $25,000 fine. The misdemeanors add up to nine months and 90 days in jail, respectively. Sentences could run concurrently or consecutively, though judges rarely impose the absolute maximum, especially for defendants without extensive prior records. Actual time served would also depend on plea negotiations, mitigating factors such as mental-health issues, and Wisconsin’s bifurcated sentencing system of confinement plus extended supervision.
Prosecutors allege the offenses occurred primarily on July 21, with one count linked to July 11. Mballow appeared in custody for his initial appearance Thursday afternoon before Judge Eric R. Heywood. He waived his right to counsel for the hearing. The court set a $50,000 cash bond with strict conditions: no contact with the two named victims, no return to the Frederick Street residence, a one-time police-escorted retrieval of belongings after a 72-hour cooling-off period, no possession of weapons, lighters, matches, gasoline or other accelerants, no departure from Wisconsin, and compliance with any prescribed medication. He must also provide a DNA sample.
Further proceedings are scheduled for Thursday, July 30, at 9 a.m., followed by a preliminary hearing on August 3.
Today, @UNDP brought together the @NAOGambia, @Ministry_Mops, and @MoWcsw to validate their Gender Equality Seal (GES) implementation work plans, an important milestone in strengthening gender-responsive governance in The #Gambia.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the three institutions to review and validate practical roadmaps that will help integrate gender equality into their policies, systems, planning, budgeting, and service delivery through the #UNDP Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions.
