Staff meetings in summer 2 are a waste of time.

No one is ready to start anything new and everything is very busy.

Don’t plan anything. Instead, set aside time for reports, handover meetings, entering data and things like SEN reviews.

I don't think today's reasoning paper in Maths can possibly give a true picture of where our pupils are. Convoluted questions, often out of context, and deliberately written in ways that children (and teachers) won't have seen before. Our children deserve better than this. #sats

Y6 teachers everywhere will have felt my pain today. We are in the midst of a Mock week for SATs so the kids get what test conditions really are and feel ready. All settled for Maths Reasoning Paper 2, about to start and then.....a wasp entered the chat.

We hear that a lot, and it’s always about the relationships with the children.

That’s true, but relationships between staff are just as important. They model healthy relationships for the children and are key to a good working environment.

The elephant in the room is that the primary curriculum is utterly overcrowded. It’s so exhausting trying to do anything well or in any kind of depth. This has got to be contributing to teacher burnout. It needs sorting but nobody in any position of influence is talking about it.

I feel sad about how heavy the primary curriculum is. We are slowly sucking all enjoyment out of schools in the pursuit of proving to Ofsted our children have retained knowledge.

It just isn't fun any more.

Increasingly, I think there’s too much pressure on new teachers to move into middle/ senior leadership positions far too soon… rather than taking the time in the classroom to really hone their craft. It’s certainly not helping with retention.

5 years into my teaching career (all 5 in Yr6) and never have I had an end of year run-up become so stressful. Between sorting a residential, a performance, an enterprise event, extra trip and everything else day to day...my head is about it explode. Happy Monday! #teachertired
