The BJP government’s Transgender Persons Amendment Bill is a brazen attack on the Constitutional rights and identity of transgender people.
This regressive bill:
- strips transgender people of their ability to self identify, violating a Supreme Court judgement
- wipes out the diverse cultural identities of communities across India
- forces trans people to undergo dehumanizing examinations by a medical board
- introduces criminal penalties and surveillance without safeguards
The BJP government hasn’t consulted the trans community and brought a bill which stigmatises rather than protects them.
The Constitution protects every Indian’s right to life, liberty, identity, and dignity. This BJP government is violating our Constitution and destroying India’s rich history of honouring transgender communities in pursuit of its narrow ideas.
The Congress Party unequivocally opposes this Bill.
With three of the Panchayat Raj Fellows in Koppal district - Ms Seema Kousar, Ms Sowjanya, and Ms Sumitra. Delighted to see these young people working as catalysts to bring impact on the ground. And so good to see their personal learning and growth. They will go far. 🌷🌿🕊️

When mom & I visited the Mysore Palace just after the launch of the #ShaktiScheme, we met a group of 10-12 elderly women from Kalaburagi, all dressed in vibrant Ilkal sarees. We realised then that the true purpose of the scheme had been served; the simple freedom to explore.
Even before the strong economic case for investment in childcare, there is a deeper moral imperative: the right of a child. Every child, regardless of the circumstances of their birth, should have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Early childhood care is not just a welfare programme but an investment into the future economic growth of a country. It’s a holistic development programme that not only boosts women’s workforce participation but also builds a healthier nation. #CareEconomy
