Lately our morning meetings have zero structure. I’ve stepped away from planning and let my students take control. It’s gives us 15 minutes to just TALK! Friendship is important now more than ever. It’s hard to let go of the structure but so fun to watch my students shine. #d123

When we finish the ones and move to the tens in standard algorithm we call our zero the “zero hero” so we never forget him! With 3x3 digit multiplication we have many zeros so my students decided that our zero hero has a wife and kids! Oh they make me laugh! #swd123 #d123

I like to give students the option of how they would like to work sometimes. Today I took a quick poll on our google meet and created breakout rooms for independent workers and buddies! I wasn’t sure how this would work remotely but it went great. #d123 #swd123

@MissHTeaches5th I stopped using reading logs a few years ago. I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. I too read books “above” my level. My parents encouraged me to read what interested me. Foster a love for reading and learning!💕

I struggle with this as a teacher and lover of reading. Do we make them read within their level? Fill out reading logs for accountability? Or does that take the joy away? I read Harry Potter in 4th grade and it sure wasn’t my level but I LOVED it! #teacherthoughts #d123 #swd123

Learned this from a coworker! Keeping tasks organized with daily to do lists. Students will mark completed assignments with a check mark. I know this will spark many discussions of integrity & honesty but I’m ready to see them hold themselves accountable! #swd123 #d123

Virtual show and tell passes for student rewards have been so much fun. I've met dogs, lizards, tarantulas, and a pet duck! Today a student shared his new baby sister and another shared some awesome gymnastics tricks outside. #d123 #swd123

My students are professionals with these breakout rooms 😄 Sharing their screens, giving everyone the opportunity to participate, & disagreeing respectfully. Their inner teachers also come out during group work! So many of them step up to that leadership role and I love it.

Today we paused to discuss the meaning of the word inspirational and a student raised her hand. She very proudly explained that she knows what this word means because her grandpa beat cancer TWICE! Love these moments. #d123 #swd123

I love when my students ask to stay on the meet for a few extra minutes to tell me something special. You would think they would be so eager to leave at the end of the day but some stay an extra few minutes just to hangout with their teacher. 🥰
