1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
New physical life demands food and the natural thing to happen when fed is growth. This is a vivid picture here. A new born baby does not think that milk is ok I guess in a take it or leave it way.
A baby desires that milk in a very strong way. Go ahead and be a little late with the feeding and you will find out what I mean. In a very loud way.
The baby’s strong desire for milk and how that makes them grow is paralleled here to new Christians and how they should desire the Word of God so that they can grow.
The new Christian needs to understand his need like the baby understands that he needs milk. The Christian needs to understand that spiritual growth comes thru Bible study.
And while this truth is highlighted here for the new Christians the truth is that none of us have arrived, we all still have growing to do.
So no matter where we are in the Christian life we should still be growing and to do that we still need to desire the Word of God every day.
The desire to grow should never stop so the desire for the Word should never stop. Without the Bible in our lives, we will stop growing spiritually. The Bible is spiritual food for the Christian.
