It’s more than just a human right. Sign language is also the deaf child’s BIRTHRIGHT. It was created FOR US...BY people like US. #signlanguage#deafgain
We post everyday in support of Brittney Griner. We won't stop until she is home and reunited with her family. We tag any and everyone who we believe can help. We will do whatever we can, and we need your help. Share a post in support. Share one of ours. (🧵1/2)

Many SPED and SALT beliefs about the magic of inclusion as desegregation comes from thinking that only certain kinds of bodies are acceptable to be around for a quality education. And from only talking to parents and family members of disabled people instead of disabled people
Cancel student debt. If we can subsidize banks, chipmakers, pharmaceutical companies, big oil, wind and solar manufacturers, telecoms, aerospace, defense contractors, and big agriculture, why not our students?
Too many places use the excuse of contract exclusivity when it comes to using other interpreting agencies outside of their contracted agency & this harms Deaf consumers. This is not legally defensible in court but we need more resources that clearly explain this. #HelpPlease!
I wanted my baby. My husband and I have tried for years. I got pregnant in august 2021 and then miscarried. My body doesn’t naturally expel so I needed a D&C. I was denied one because my doctor was worried about the laws here in Texas. I waited for 2 WEEKS carrying my loss while

Communication is a two-way street…& it definitely becomes more complex when more are involved. And the power dynamics? Whoo…don’t get me started!
@Quinns_quirks@mrhuwmorgan@s4x110 However, if I grew up in a different environment…things could have gone another way. I actually haven’t worn mine in more than a decade. Totally needed that break. Might go back to it one day.
@Quinns_quirks@mrhuwmorgan@s4x110 Agree with you! My parents had me make the decision about getting mine. One of the best things they ever did. It’s MY body and MY life, not theirs. I don’t really have regrets (altho I went through a lot of trials with my CI) cuz, ultimately, I had made the decision for myself.

@s4x110@Quinns_quirks This is a very tricky question to me cuz oftentimes such “informed consent” is unable to be given by children, who are often the recipients of CIs due to the decisions made by their parents. Who are also often Hearing & come with their own biases.
Must read thread about language and modality biases!
Trust me…being able to speak and hear isn’t everything. We can and DO exist and thrive in this world. I consider the existence of Deaf people and signed languages to be a treasure, one worthy of protection and understanding.
