We had a spooky day! Our favorite parts of today we’re learning about balanced and unbalanced forces, then practicing text structure, context clues, central idea, and relevant details with a Halloween themed text after finishing our whole group lesson. 🎃👻 @West_OCPS @OCPSnews

#RockYourSchool after lunch: We made oobleck, used our senses to observe it, and described it using the properties of matter. Then, we wrote an argumentative essay on if oobleck is a solid or a liquid using the evidence we found. As my kids said, “BEST DAY EVER!” @OCPSnews

#RockYourSchool part 1: It’s glow day! Before lunch, the kids completed informational text and multiplying decimal math activities that practiced the standards they’ve been learned. It was amazing to see them become more confident with their new content! @OCPSnews

Nothing is better as a teacher than seeing your students excited about their learning. Our science unit is all about space and we previously did a stem project on rockets, so we prioritized watching the launch today. They were so excited and cheered on the launch 🚀☁️

Results are in! They made some great modules and had wonderful discussions when a module didn’t have the right volume for the spaceship or had differences in mass. We ran repeated trials to make sure our design results were valid.

The launch may be scrubbed, but it started a great conversation on matter already! Today, the kids will have to use volume and mass to build their own crew module before running repeated trials. And getting space snack of course! @OCPSnews

Session 1 of 5th grade science IMPACT training was a blast! Literally! It’s wonderful getting to dive into these fun activities and hear clever ideas from fellow teachers. I cannot wait to see my students engaged in science👩🏻‍🔬 @OCPSnews

Engagement hack! I put 24 etch a sketches on my wishlist this year to use instead of whiteboards. EVERY student was engaged in their math learning and loved using them to solve problems. They were also helpful for quick checks. Thanks @Struckhoff_ocps !

Today we used M&Ms to create a tally chart, bar graph, answer questions about the data, and write and solve our own word problem. My students were so excited and couldn’t stop saying how much fun it was!

Oh what fun we had describing characters in a poem by drawing a picture of how the character is described. It helped us understand the theme. Look how amazing their responses and drawings are! @UCFTeacherEd @UCFCCIE
