It’s usually ok to send your child to school with a mild illness.
If you’re not sure, take a look at the @NHSuk guidance on a range of common childhood illnesses such as coughs and colds, to help you decide.

- 6.5% would never have been awarded without the 8 days of action by NEU members.
- We must go further though. 🏴 teachers deserve pay parity with 🏴
- We need pay restoration for all school staff (teachers, leaders, support staff)
- This isn't just about fairness. It is the only way to save our schools. The crisis of recruitment & retention is so severe.
- We need urgent action on workload. Education funding is too low. We should fund our schools to the OECD average of 5% of GDP.
- We have shown we can beat the government's anti-democratic strike thresholds.
- We have shown we can deliver solid and sustained strike action.
- In September serious discussions will take place about how we move the campaign for education forward.
- We will build unity and coordinate with other eduction unions as much as possible.
BREAKING: Once again @GillianKeegan has refused to release the pay review body report. If you agree with us that she should release it immediately and start negotiations with us please like or share #saveOurSchools
I decided to carry out a little research on an upcoming high profile education/teaching conference (which looks fantastic).
This is what I found:
Of the 440 speakers (estimated):
38 are in school based leadership positions (below HT level)
33 are school based headteachers
5 are classroom teachers
So, 76/440 speakers have school based roles and from those only a small percentage are likely to have a large classroom teaching component.
Now, why does this matter? Well, maybe it doesn’t! But I think in the current climate classroom teacher voices are more important than ever. Maybe they didn’t apply to speak? Perhaps because usually they are too busy but event organisers could reach out to teachers/schools directly? Maybe they weren't available? I don't know the reasons but the stats themselves are worth consideration IMO.
If the conference was called ‘consultants/sales operatives in education’ - I don’t think this would be a problem at all. Neither am I suggesting that just because someone currently isn’t teaching, they don’t have something valuable to say - not at all! I am just saying that if the conference is about teaching and education - I think there should be a good proportion of classroom teachers (based in schools) sharing.
Welcoming other views here - It’s replicated across a huge number of ‘teaching’ and ‘education’ events.
STATEMENT: This afternoon we’ve announced two new strikes on 5th and 7th July. It’s time for @GillianKeegan to #SaveOurSchools

Despite our efforts, Govt has shown no understanding of just how serious the situation in education is. Our members need a fully-funded pay rise.
We will be taking strike action on 27 April and 2 May.

Today, Rishi Sunak is focusing on how we can get more teenagers to study maths for longer.
Meanwhile:
780,000 children have been referred for mental health support. 250,000 of them have been refused.
22% of school pupils are "persistent absentees".
There's the maths crisis.
🧵 So, if you know me you’ll know I love an assembly banger! Here’s a list of tried and tested assembly ‘hall fillers’ for primary. Oldies but goodies and guaranteed to make you smile. Oh and plenty more where these came from 😁

The Government’s offer is not funded.

Ofsted is and has always been a failed project
They have never published any evidence to prove that their inspections are accurate
The NAO: “Ofsted does not know whether its school inspections have an impact”
We managed in the pandemic without them
Pause then ABOLISH Ofsted
Ofsted calling schools on Tuesday to then come in Thursday and Friday is disgusting, knowing teachers are striking. Guaranteed now some teachers won’t be striking and will be in to prep etc. Awful.
