I was so pleased to meet Rema in Washington this month as she advocated for the millions of Syrians returning home after 14 years of war. With hope on the horizon, now is not the time to look away.
Hope on the horizon.
With over two million returning home, now is the time to help Syrians rebuild.

"It's heartbreaking, but there is hope."
Ahead of Thanksgiving, Deputy High Commissioner @KellyTClements reflects on humanitarian values she cherishes.
From Ukraine, Sudan, Lebanon and beyond, support from the American people and @StatePRM is critical to our life-saving work.

Renk 🇸🇸 small city, welcomed over 660k #refugees & #returnees who fled #sudan war. Now rainy season & #Flood severely impacting the city
@UNHCRSouthSudan@WFP_SouthSudan & partners extending support to over 32k of the community helping in the urgent needs of food & relief items
Early this morning, an airstrike hit the road between the Lebanese and the Syrian border at Masnaa. Even when fleeing for their lives, Syrians and Lebanese are not allowed to feel safe. This is unacceptable. Fortunately, there were no civilian casualties this time. As the road is destroyed, some are now literally walking into Syria. I spoke to some of them a few minutes ago. They were terrified.
One million people are now displaced inside Lebanon.
Over 185,000 people have fled to Syria. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes target the road in the no-man's land at the key border crossing closing this route for vehicles.
This is madness - it must stop.

Thousands of people are fleeing from Lebanon to Syria fearing further Israeli air strikes.
Some are Syrians who fled war in their country, now to be bombed in the country where they sought refuge.
The region cannot afford a new displacement crisis. 👇🏻https://t.co/wDlFo89Jl6
We are outraged and deeply saddened by the killing of two beloved members of the UNHCR family and extend our deepest sympathies to their families.
The protection of civilians is a must, in line with obligations under international humanitarian law.

Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon are now relentlessly claiming hundreds of civilian lives.
And I am very saddened to confirm that two UNHCR colleagues were also killed yesterday.
On behalf of all us at UNHCR, heartfelt condolences to their families, friends and colleagues.
In the Sahel, millions are displaced due to conflict, insecurity, and the effects of climate change.

UNHCR is deeply saddened by the deaths of at least 40 people who lost their lives in a boat fire off the coast of Haiti.
We share our deepest sympathies with those who lost loved ones in this tragedy.
Nobody should have to risk their lives on dangerous journeys to reach safety.
A beautiful reflection after 32 years of service to @Refugees as a UNHCR driver in Kenya.
I've always felt our drivers are some of UNHCR's biggest heroes.
Wishing Kimbo a beautiful new chapter ahead.

I was part of the UNHCR team that helped build Jamjang camp. I also lived there in 2014.
It was never intended to host refugees 🔟years later fleeing one of the 🌍's largest displacement crises.
On #WorldRefugeeDay, grateful to countries like South Sudan that welcome refugees
The Jamjang camps were established in 2013 for Sudanese refugees from the Nuba Mountains. Their hosts shared farming land. Now 12,000 new refugees fleeing the Sudan war have arrived — a testimony to South Sudan’s open border policy.
Proud to celebrate here #WorldRefugeeDay.
On his way back from #Sudan@FilippoGrandi met our fantastic team in Renk
They have been working non stop for over a year to help the thousands fleeing conflict
I am immensely proud of them and all my colleagues in @UNHCRSouthSudan
Thanks 🙏 to our donors and Happy #WorldRefugeeDay
Continued conflict in Sudan has led to one of the largest displacement crises in the world.
Learn why we’re calling on the U.S. and other nations not to lose sight of the “forgotten” crisis.”
