Here is a great article to extend your understanding of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in the classroom and how you can apply it. #PSY347 https://t.co/iAxAPokpDl
@mmveled Yes! We can never truly know what may be happening at home, so we need to be sure to fulfill the basic needs we can, so they feel safe enough to get their work done.
@MillikenMeghan I do the same. I find that when I have something to work toward, the work seems to move a lot more smoothly. I definitely plan to integrate this into my classroom to help motivate the students who need that kind of motivation.
@KennaCarroll10 I agree. Since I started in the education program, I've had to reflect on my work constantly, and I really think it has made me much better in the long run.
@AlexWFarrell Absolutely! You can tell in a classroom setting when a student comes in feeling dejected. It can be really good to get their self esteem up enough learn effectively.
Students have a large list of psychological needs that will impact their ability to learn in our classrooms. We need to do the best we can to fulfill all of these needs to help our students be in the best learning environment too when they come to school #PSY347#howtodoit
Sometimes we stress about external, unstable, and uncontrollable events. Remember, when these things happen, that it is just life, stress happens. We cannot do anything if it is out of our control. This may be a valuable thought to share with students #PSY347#taooftheweek
Students need to help themselves to succeed. No matter how good a teacher is at their job, a student will not learn if they do not take responsibility for their learning, particularly in the higher grades. Not paying attention will negatively affect you. #PSY347#ahamoment
I found a good little article to give you all some ideas on how to implement small, non-graded formative assessments in your classroom. #PSY347 https://t.co/XtCfHSoOzF
@SarahSamStern2 Assessment is at the core of reflection for a teacher. If we cannot see the results of our hard work, how can we see where we can improve to make it even better?
@WillCoggswell I like this idea, but I know that most teachers are still able to recognize each student's writing. Do you have an idea for how to work around that and remain objective? Maybe trade papers with another teacher in you team and grade each other's papers?
@BlombergEmily I also think that, after creating that baseline classroom community, peer assessment can actually help grow that sense of community and encourage the students to rely on one another as they work their way through school.
@DestreeKimberly I totally agree! Assessment is actually vital for teachers so that we may reflect on what works and what doesn't in the classroom. I think we need to flip the negative attitude that people have regarding assessment.
@MissHerbers I like this point. While it may be less challenging to learn in certain ways for students, the best learning can happen when students are put in a situation where they are challenged.
Sometimes, when assessing students, it can be hard to objectively grade them. With some assessments, you need to grade students for what they get correct, not how much they have improved, as many teachers prefer to do in other situations to boost self esteem. #PSY347#howtodoit
Over the years, my teachers have used both analytic and holistic rubrics. I didn't realize until I took this class that I prefer analytical. I will be biased toward that type, but I need to be willing to use holistic when it better fits the situation. #PSY347#ahamoment
Assessment has a perception of being a bad and stressful part of the classroom. We need to change the thinking in our classrooms so that assessment is a tool for growth, not one for passing judgement. #PSY347#taooftheweek
Here is an article with an outline of what should be done in a morning meeting. It should give you some good general guidelines for how to build your own plan for a morning meeting. #PSY347 https://t.co/tIG9lZsXVD
@KennaCarroll10 I agree, I had never even considered this technique until I had seen this video. I think it will be very interesting to implement it in my classroom and promote a calmer atmosphere.
