🟦 STFP End of Academic Year 2024–2025 Survey Report will be released tomorrow 🟦
We asked 555 Scottish teachers about their experiences this year.
One answer shook us to the core:
“My biggest achievement this year? Not committing suicide.”
This profession is at breaking point.
@JennyGilruth @JohnSwinney@GlasgowPam@willie_rennie@RussellFindlay1
This is what contempt for Scotland’s teachers looks like
A full debate was held in Holyrood: “A New Plan for Scotland’s Teaching Workforce.” A chance to confront the crisis of insecure contracts, staff shortages and the exodus from the profession.
And the government benches? Empty.
Not a full row. Not even half. Just seat after seat left vacant by the very people meant to be responsible for fixing this.
If this is their idea of leadership
If this is how seriously they take our schools
Then every teacher in Scotland has the right to ask:
Do they just not care?
📝 Public Survey: What’s really happening in Scotland’s schools?
🚨 Our schools are being held together by temp & supply teachers.
Permanent posts are disappearing. Staff are burning out. Pupils are losing consistency.
👀 Noticed constant teacher changes?
🎓 Know someone who can’t get a permanent teaching job?
📣 We want to hear from YOU.
Help us expose the impact of instability in education.
Take 2 mins to complete the survey:

This note was written by a pupil, worried their teacher wouldn’t be back after summer.
They were right.
Due to a lack of permanent jobs—and councils’ reliance on casual supply staff and fixed-term contracts—this teacher, like many others, had to leave. Some are made to re-interview four times a year, because contracts are broken down by term instead of covering the full year.
This isn’t fair on teachers. It’s devastating for pupils.

P2/3 have absolutely loved reading The Last Bear and follow up, Finding Bear, over the last few months. We have had many wonderful discussions about climate change, friendships, empathy and the importance of being individual. Fantastic read with so much valuable learning ⭐️📖🌏
